Danner without a second thought. They are expensive, but worth every penny.
Whatever you buy just make sure they're resoleable.

What type of work you are doing is somewhat important to know

I’m seriously considering a pair of Nick’s Overlander boots. Price tag $569!!!
Anyone own a pair? Are they worth it?

Nicks are handmade in USA with some of the finest materials and they do not slip any corners. That’s why you pay premium for their boots.
That said, breaking in a boot like nicks is a different and difficult animal in its own right. If you haven’t done it before, prepare yourself for blisters. But after it’s broken in, it’s the only pair of boots you’ll want to wear. Just rotate into them and wear thick wool socks for the break in. If you’re in construction, you’re going to need at minimum a safety toe that is ANSI Z41. This boot doesn’t meet this requirement.

Thorogoods are terrible boots.
yep...20 years ago or so, Thorogoods/Weinbrenners were pretty awesome work boots. They turned to crap over the last couple of decades.

Might pull the trigger on some Nicks.
Any advice / lessons learnt on their measuring process and ensuring the right fit?
Anything you wish you knew before ordering?
With a couple month lead time want to make sure to get it right.

I've got size 13 4e feet. How come none of these companies make my size? Thoroughgood does, but I've had mixed results with them being true to size. Same with Dunham.

I have been wearing Merrell Strongfields for years and love em. Waterproof, shock and chem resistant, composite toe (and light because of it).
I get about two years out of a pair (drilling rigs are rough on everything but Redwings and Irish Setters) but the comfort is worth the short life expectancy.

Danner is the best brand

Danner and White’s are the same company- and my White’s moc toes are at least 2x as better built as my old Danners.
I think Nick’s are the best, but the lead times are ridiculous.

My last pair of redwing wasn't that great. They have made in America models and overseas ones. My last pair of made in America redwings were good, they lasted over a year of every day wear. My made somewhere else loggers lasted only 2 years of very infrequent use.

quote:That's my boot of choice. I wear their loggers because they have good climbing heels and arch support. Nonmetallic toe because my job doesn't require it. Break in is a little tough. I usually wear a new pair on weekends for a couple of months before putting them in daily rotation. Honestly stopped buying them at the RedWing store once I knew my style/size. I can get them cheaper via Amazon--usually $150 or so.
So far my favorite is the nonmetallic toe Irish setters made by redwing
