I know I'm young...but how did college social stuff work before cell phones?

Did you just make plans to meet somewhere via a landline and just hope everyone showed up? Were people more reliable back then?
I guess it's my generation and I think we are too attached to the damn things but they do make life way easier.

And how were arguments settled before Google?

People had to be more reliable. Couldn't text an excuse or warn someone you were running late.

You enjoyed the company you where with much more then than you do know. You made plans, stuck to them, then didn't ignore everyone your were with by keeping your head down playing on a damn phone.
Life was less stressful.

We always grouped up at a friend's apartment ahead of time and beeped people to see where they were, then we went out in packs. We also had codes we would beep each other to say where we were. We had cellphones, but it was like $50 for 100 minutes or some shite.

Pagers were actually widespread? I know my dad had one for business but I didn't know college kids used them

Yes. You had to be social and talk to people. People were more reliable.
IDK how college stuff is now but the works is generally less reliable.

Smoke signals worked well too.

I used pay phones a lot. Had phone #s written down on old receipts
A few times you would wait around and waste time unsure whether somebody was gonna show up or not. Been late to a few hunts and fishing because of that.

In the mid 90's pagers were very popular.

I had a beeper from 7th grade to college. My parents loved it because they could find me when I was out playing. When I got to high school, I didn't come home til late because of sports and they could get ahold of me then too. Everyone had one pretty much.

Back in the old days people talked to each other. You could even buy drugs and get laid. Imagine that.

Remember that. Worked quite well, although it could be problematic in South Louisiana during hunting season.
I'm a bit older - we relied on regional versions of the Pony Express.
