I would say the strangest time to be in college would have been '98-'02. Cell phones weren't popular where everyone had one, no texting and pagers were obsolete.

I don't know about it being the strangest. I only had one friend with a cell phone, it was actually his moms and if you had a personal computer we thought you were kind of a nerd.

It's strange to think you might tell a chick on like a Monday or Tuesday I'll pick you up Friday at 7, and then have no communication until you show up Friday.

Many times we'd have a typical meeting place that you'd know to go to. In college it was a bar, downstairs at the fraternity house, etc. In high school, you cruised certain parts of town, typically some shopping center parking lot or the local mall.
But always before this, you'd meet up with your best friend and go together to all of these places.

This, in Monroe for high school it was Big Texaco, which is no longer a Texaco I think. In college it was Library Lounge or Sals.

I was in college during this time...I never felt like I couldn't reach people when I needed to.

I can recall being in law school around '97 or '98 and there was ONE chick who walked around school regularly on a cell phone and everyone else was like 'who the frick does she think she is?'

I disagree with this. There were only a few people on campus that had laptops because even a PoS was $2K then. I was actually jealous of people that had one.

I honestly as an old fart (41) dont know how you guys get along WITH all the shite now. Cellphone pics and video straight to youtube? All the stupid shite I did and said while 18-23 and hammered? Strippers rode my dick (in pants) while I was passed out on a buddys couch. That would have been filmed and somewhere for my Mom to see.
Also "drinking and dialing" was something I liked to do. I shudder to think of all the shite I could have told women via text that could be perfectly recorded and Tweeted as a screen shot or on The Chive.

It was weird - we'd call people on the land lines and ask if they were up to anything. If they weren't there, we'd just assume they were busy and moved on with our lives without the need of 24/7 connectivity to the rest of the world.
The day I retire is the day I cancel my cell phone plan and toss the phone into the river. If I'm not at home, frick off. I'm busy. :cant wait:

I was in college from '89-'94.two of my friends had car phones near the end. After that i had some friends that were cops and they were the first to have cell phones. I don't remember it being especially hard to find anyone. If we made plans to go to an event where people were traveling separately you just named the time and a landmark to meet at. It usually worked out fine. The only time I could remember that having a cell around that time would have been nice was in '96 when my car broke down on rural stretch of highway about 40 miles from my destination at like 11pm. I walked probably 5 miles before someone stopped and picked me up.
