It's not overkill when your company gets stroked a PO for a multi million dollar job because of their safety record.

Most operations and manufacturing facilities require this if meeting with 3 or more people. This is a common safety culture thing. Usually it lasts 1-2 min

I understand that. This guy is a tax guy sitting in what looked like his kitchen.

Maybe they have a company policy or some shite, but I dont know why they would. Everyone on the call was remote, and were either accounting or IT
A zoom meeting full of bean counters and someone required some random safety instruction to kick off the meeting? Bizarre

i dont have to endure too many of them because i'm out in the field as an account manager but i can only imagine ops hears the same topics a lot.

i think its overkill to but our Safety Director has helped bring up and maintain our company's safety record so i cant complain much.

It makes a ton of sense for people working in warehouses or going to job sites where there is machinery. It’s a complete waste of time for Joe in audit who works from home and doesn’t have to worry about much more than a hangnail or carpal tunnel.

It’s like the safety episode of the office

Not a waste of time for anyone really. Most of the safety talks we have can be applied to anything, not just things at work. Once you get safety drilled into your head, you'll start to recognize hazards everywhere you go and with everything you do.

I work in the oil industry and that is how we start our meetings. Doesn't have to be that long but the idea is keep safety in mind at all times whether at work or at home. This has been going on for years in this industry.

I've had numerous O&G clients, whether E&P or service companies. Never once have we had a safety breif before going over tax concerns

That a tax guy opened a tax call telling us to have the mail not delivered and to lock your windows, yes.

Postal services are full of criminals, last thing you want to do is notify them that you will not be home. One of our nail carries was busted for opening and stealing mail as was a couple of people wiring in our post office location.

How is this a safety topic as it pertains to ANY work place or person? Home security isn't safety.

Most meetings in the oilfield with a major company or major OEM start off with a safety moment. Complete waste of time but some company like BP started it so companies line up to copy and be with the program.

Last meeting I had the safety moment was about leaving a wrench on an object about to be picked up by a crane. Could have fallen off and struck someone.

Yep, a room full of engineers and project managers discussing this for 5-7 minutes. I wanted to throw a wrench.

What in the ever living frick? Even in the uber risk averse Army we only had to do a safety brief at COB on Fridays.

I worked for an Engineering Consulting Firm ($5+ Billion annual revenue, 20,000+ employees) that started every meeting with a safety minute.
