I don’t know how lower end middle class families can handle gas, groceries and housing all going up at these rates
Was going to be at a backcountry cabin for a few weeks. Last minute I stopped by the grocery store for some extra supplies in case I got weathered in. Bulk jolly ranchers $2.79. Trail mix (nuts and dehydrated fruit) $18. Which do you think these families are buying

Black beans are surprisingly filling and don't leave you with a meat craving like other plant-based foods. I had cuban style beans over rice last night.

Or you can adopt a few basic money saving strategies like combining coupons with store promotions, planning weekly menus around what is on sale, growing some of your own food, cooking from scratch, etc.

Not going to lie. I don’t look at prices.

I've gotten pretty good at cooking with SPAM. You wouldn't even know what it was.

that’s the idea. The elite don’t miss a meal while the under class goes hungry...waiting in line...for a couple of potatoes
the funny thing about this post is all the people upvoting cuz they think they're sitting at the elite table laughing at the poor...
Some y'all gonna be in that tater line, and I don't think that's the endorsement of food inequities that you think you're upvoting-

What I hate is when the government gives the money to the grocery stories, and then those stores just burn it

quote:Reminds me of a prison story. Well, not prison, but 5th floor of the Dallas County Courthouse "Jail" story. I watched the Ralph Sampson vs Jerry Sichting fight during the 1986 NBA Finals with 28 of my buddies in one of the quadrangles with seven man cells at the DC Courthouse. As soon as it ended the TV cut off, and we made our way to the cells. The regulars told me how privileged we were to get to stay up late that night to watch the game.
He hongry.
Got no money.
It was a lot like summer camp, but the stories were much better. At one point everyone told why they were there. They didn't believe me when I told them I had a $40 check bounce at Montgomery-Wards, but it was the truth. I had a coke problem then, but my night in jail, and my cutting ties with some friends for years, cured me.
The best story was a guy who said he, "Knocked a Domino's delivery guy down and stole twenty something dollars, and a large pepperoni pizza."
Another guy immediately asked, "Why'd you do that man?"
"I was hongry!" he replied.
We all laughed for a few minutes, and that was the camp story that ended that discussion.
I've got some other funny, and sad, stories from the afternoon and night of my incarceration.

When a guy on the other side of a cinder block wall asked him how he got caught, he said he ran about three blocks & started eating it, then two cop cars pulled up.
He said he didn't even try to run, he just started eating faster to get as much down as possible.

I guess it’s possible there might be someone with such poor reasoning skills that they couldn’t figure out if was a question.

Shop sale items. Don't make your menu plans until you see what's on sale. Cook a lot and eat leftovers.
Exactly what I do. I make a game of it sometimes to find what all is on sale and complete a large meal off of that and eat it throughout the week.
That’s said, I grilled some snapper this weekend that came out delicious, but it definitely wasn’t on sale.
