It is genuine, and we know it's genuine because Stephen Fry had the same reaction at the Iron Bowl many years back.

To me, it's exactly how it should be: Europeans awed at our infrastructure, our landscape, our size; that a college town in the middle of nowhere can produce such feelings of patriotism and community lost long ago across the Atlantic.

At the same time, Americans experience awe at European history, the sheer beauty, the centuries-old practices, that every corner of that continent west of Moscow serves a unique purpose in the timeline that made Western civilization what it is.

It has never been a question of "which is better" (at least in the American point of view), but a celebration of what we are and how we compliment each other.

It's also why it's especially troubling at what Europe is currently doing to itself because they are risking everything special about it

Idk, when I was in Germany I took in an Ajax vs FC Bayern match at Allianz Arena. I guess you could have mistaken me for one of those guys because I was impressed by that place. More so the crowd being crazy the entire game with the chanting/singing and flags and banners waving the entire time. We don’t do that here. But the arena was great.

Been to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for a Saints game as well. That place was REALLY nice. Stamford Bridge was a dump, but I like the history.

It does whenever they don't soak the field before the games on a sunny day

I think its not uncommon to what Americans do when we go over there. You want to be nice and you hype up your hosts because you want to be shown as appreciative and that you are liking the experience

That doesn't make it non genuine but it probably is to a degree a level of pandering

Europeans tend to find our scale and varying environments impressive. We tend to find their history and long standing traditions and culture impressive and we are both accurate in doing so

Too many people get caught up in social media engagament bait but just need to go outside and touch grass sometimes

There's a reason why all of the Europeans stuck over there are relentlessly attacking and shitting on the fact that the US is having the World Cup but the people who came over seem to be having the time of their lives

There are some funny videos of English school kids try American food for the first time.

I can relate to the smoked brisket reactions.

Waffle House breakfast is 100000% better than some disgusting English breakfast with baked beans and grilled tomatoes.

They weren't deporting US citizens so I'm not sure why anyone would've been worried.

I was amazed how many foreigners I met traveling rte 66 last month. I was in one shop in Arizona and met 3 people visiting from Australia and they weren't with each other. Met a young couple from Argentina touring 66 on a motorcycle.

Friend, There is an emerging new genre on social media I label European pandering. These visitors effuse with unending praise, implying America superiority to their countries and culture. And certain American audiences, especially those who say they need no validation from outsiders, eat it up. It as if some Americans actually believe them that American sunsets are somehow superior or that a Waffle House breakfast tastes better than a good English or Scottish breakfast or that a rinky dink SEC stadium in the middle of Auburn is more impressive than the stadiums of Europe. If you have not spent significant time in Europe I suppose their acting might seem genuine. Yours, TulaneLSU
