Would be curious on Comal county. And does your cost of living factor in private school costs?

Comal is New Braunfels, right? Closer to 7% less than Covington.

And "my" COLA database doesn't take into consideration private school costs. Which is why I specifically chose Covington given that any reasonably minded person would be fine sending their kids to St. Tammany Public Schools.

Yep, New Braunfels, Canyon Lake and a bunch of smaller towns. Seven percent is not a ton but I guess it is about quality which is subjective

Louisiana is Mexico. Texas is the United States. Louisiana is run by a violent political cartel that uses socialism to buy votes and steals what money there is while the infrastructure crumbles. Their cronyism makes it so difficult to start new businesses or maintain existing ones for those not in the club that it forces those seeking a better life to flee to places with better opportunities. If Louisiana were located elsewhere, it might not be so bad, but of the few things where Louisiana has unique competitive advantages verses most other states, Texas has all of those same advantages in spades, plus a much larger and more densely packed population, better infrastructure, better taxation regime, and far less hoops to jump through. For that reason, businesses looking to set up operations tend to make the easy math that Texas is a better investment than neighboring Louisiana.

For those reasons, Louisianians are migrating in droves to Texas. They don’t want to be there, but are forced out economically. Much like Mexico, over 1/5 of Louisiana’s population now lives in Texas, the vast majority of whom live in the Golden Triangle or Houston metro. They are proud of their culture, bring their language and foods with them, and prefer to live in ethnic enclaves when possible rather than assimilate into the native Texan culture. This is the result of Louisiana being the first state to adopt 20th century socialism in the 1920’s. Louisiana had universal healthcare and free higher education long before anyone else. We’re also a shining example of how those policies don’t work.

Dude, I would not base my decision to stay in or leave Louisiana according to who wins the election. You posted a picture of the bag of rocks regarding politicians here. There ain't going to be some gigantic overnight change in Louisiana with a new governor. I thought Jindal had all the potential in the world before he was governor. He was extremely smart, was about the only Louisiana politician that seemed effective during Katrina and didn't seem like a complete imbecile. Then he became governor and turned into an ineffective political moron.

If you raise your kids right, they will succeed anywhere in any circumstance. But in other states, you have less bullshite to deal with. And if you've just reached your bullshite limit, then you should weigh your decision to move based on that because all the other stuff will work itself out. Your kids are going to grow up much more well off than most no matter where you are according to the salaries you posted for you and your wife. It's not like they're going to be going to Eastside High if you stay in Louisiana.

If you live in Louisiana and your family hasn’t owned lots of land for hundreds of years you’re a carpetbagger and you should leave

I partially agree but I think it is more like someone else provides a glimmer of hope vs JBE meaning no hope and turning over the rest of the state to the Plaintiff bar and progressive poverty pimps running the cities.

Some of the so-called GOP in this state are just as corrupted and inept as any Democrat.

The root of our problems boil down to the state constitution. We have $30 billion dollars in our budget, yet $27 billion of that is constitutionally protected and earmarked by amendments, so we only have $3 billion to work with to balance the budget. The ONLY things that are allowed to be cut to balance the budget are education and healthcare. Every Louisiana voter, Democrat, republican and independent should all be voting on this one issue more than anything else for the future of our state.

It'll take an act of Congress and a complete overhaul of the state constitution. One of the problems is that every time a bill comes up for protected funding they phrase it as if you're an evil person if you don't vote for it. Also since there is so much locked up already every new fund gets locked up so it doesn't get raided.

I think it’s the middle class that’s gotten squeezed out of Louisiana.

Tuition doesn’t matter to the rich. The poor would probably be poor wherever they are. I do think Louisiana makes it harder though for the poor to improve their lot.

It’s the middle class that suffers most.

no doubt, it's going to take a change in attitude and culture. The biggest problem is that most people don't even realize that it is a problem.

Louisiana is awful. Be a responsible adult and move your family elsewhere. You’ll make new friends and create a new life and unless you’re one of those oddballs who just can’t function without Mardi Gras, you won’t even miss Nola.
