You sound like the kind of guy we need in office. Help make our state a better place. We need your help.
The problem is that we need a legislature full of that type and they need to repopulate pretty much every state board and committee.
And that much work just isn't happening.

what's so funny Ham? the northshore blows

Good luck. There are many of us that love this state, aren’t leaving and want to make it better. The two cities you mentioned moving to have little culture compared to LA. But enjoy!

To each his own.
I can tell by your comments you haven't left NOLA your entire life and have lived in that bubble. You only see what you want to see.

So say you make six figures and have two kids. You have to shell out 20% if your salary for education while still paying state income tax and having to deal with crime, flooding, cultcha, bad hospitals, insane real estate prices, bad roads, astronomical insurance rates, crazy utility prices, and on and on.
The cost of living between SE Louisiana and the Greater Houston area, for instance, is basically the same, FYI.

Where do you live now?
Central Texas. No state income tax. Essentially no major crime. A rated public schools. Hills, and natural beauty. Cheaper real estate. Better economy with white collar jobs.
It’s hot as shite but not quite as humid. Educated population. Friendly workers even at convenience stores and fast food.
No flooding. No hurricanes. Good roads and hospitals.
Other than seafood and lower property taxes, there is literally nothing better about New Orleans.

No state income tax

No way. If you live outside of inner Houston, public schools are pretty good. Not the case for Nola suburbs, minus the northshore.
Way more job opportunities, better hospitals and housing is way cheaper and better. So you dont have to waste money on stupid catholic schools because your kids aren’t going to school with criminals in Public schools.
That alone makes cost of living in greater Houston better.

Solid rebuttal. Ever been to central Texas? If so where?

The difference is what you get for your tax dollars. Good schools and roads. What are you getting for that income tax in Louisiana?

Norrthwest Washington North of Seattle! Only been 80+ degrees this year 7 times so far... Yesterday's high was 72 and you don't get a heat index. As long as you have a good 100k or more to move up here on (housing), and a job it's great. No state income tax, no grocery tax, as long as you avoid the meth heads (tweakers), you'll be good. And schools are miles better than down south. As long as Glacier Peak, Rainier, and Baker don't erupt or we get the Cascadia mega quake...the place is amazing..and only Alaska can rival us for the most beautiful state.

The west and particularly northwest is gorgeous. Envious

I look at Louisiana the same way I look at Baltimore. People running for office telling their constituents they are one of them, they know how they feel. I am a lifelong Baltimorean or Louisianan. Problem is that is exactly who shouldn’t be elected.
I sometimes wonder, in these problem areas, if an outside independent counsel could oversee the mess. Of course that would cause an uproar and that is coming from someone who supports less government.

Yup. Spent tons of time all over Texas. I’m not disputing any of your infrastructure points. Life in suburbia ain’t my cup of tea. My job allows me to live comfortably wherever I so choose.
I’m not defending Louisiana. But I enjoy my life here and I’m glad you enjoy yours.

It’s not a fallacy. You said cost of living is the same. If you roughly say that higher property tax is offset by no state income tax it’s a wash.
However, if you’re paying 10-20 percent of your salary on private schools because politicians piss away your income tax contributions it’s NOT equal at all.

I am good with LA, but also enjoy spending time in Houston area.
