The taxes residents pay in Chicago (all of Illinois) is also incredibly high.

I was doing some work in Groton, CT around '05 and one of the guys from there said his wife made $80k teaching.
But with the CoL it's all relative.

In the high school district in my city I think you can max out at $90k if you have a master's degree.

I'm sorry but how is this a high salary for a college grad professional with 15 years experience (average, right?) in an important field?

It was a great place to raise kids for my parents, but they got the hell out now that we're grown. Taxes are insane

My coworker's husband was a former EBR parish high school teacher. He said he was constantly being proposition by high school girls to get their grades changed. It became so disgusting that after one year, he decided to change careers.

That's about what I make as a teacher/coach and that's after I get my stipend. I currently work weekends and over the holidays bc I coach baseball and football. Plus I work the entire summer with weight lifting, 7 on 7 , and summer bSeball league. Still only make around 43k

I worked in one of the higher paying parishes and started at around $49k, but I pushed well through $50k with some after school tutoring that the school provided. I taught at a fairly rough high school. I had students with ankle bracelets (the monitoring kind, not jewelry), fresh gunshot wounds, some who threatened me, and others who wanted to kill each other (a few who tried). Not to mention, the school was somewhat of a cluster and the lack of support and organization was beyond stressful. I now teach part time preschool for almost nothing, but I'm much happier.
