It's all hidden under a plastic shroud, anyway. Not much to see.

I only popped mine within that time because I use the washer fluid quickly. I have free oil changes so I don't have to worry about that anymore. Recently popped it to change the air filter.

Thanks for the laugh. Needed it.

I bought a new 2003 Camry that burned about a quart of oil every 5k miles. I kept it until 2017. It had 289k miles on it when I sold it to the high school kid down the street for $1k. As it got around 60k miles I made a habit of checking fluid levels at the gas station for each tank. I don’t think it’s as crucial as it used to be but it’s just something that I’m in a habit of doing.

I opened the hood on my wife's new Mercedes when we got it a few months ago. It looked like something out of Battlestar Galactica. I closed it and haven't opened it again

Don't be a dumbass, you don't have to pop the hood to check your blinker fluid.

I pay professionals to deal with my car just as I’m a professional paid for my expertise.

Took brand new Cherokee for test drive from dealer with sales guy (about 2004). He told me to pull into gas station since it was very much on "E." I looked under hood while he put gas. Found there was missing power steering oil cap. Didn't buy that one.

My car doesn't even have a dipstick for the oil. You check it through the infotainment system. All you can see when you look under the hood are 2 small fans, an oil and coolant filler cap, and an air intake. Not much reason to open the hood between services.

My fiancée's friend (female, Chinese) had a Toyota Camry drove until the engine caught fire from lack of oil. Just lazy imbecilism not to do at least the minimum of checking fluids, looking for leaks, etc. every few thousand miles.

I consider myself an above average shade tree mechanic, and I guarantee you, there is almost nothing I can fix under the hood of a new car today.

Nahhh, I put a K&N filter on my Tundra because I wanted to have the NAAAAHHH NAHHHHH NAHHHHH NAHHHHHH sound instead of the nahh nahh nahh nahh sound. And because the NAAAAAHHHH NAHHHHHHH NAAAAAHHHHHH NAAAAHHHHH sound pisses my wife off when I rev the engine.

The extra 1/2 mile per gallon was just lagniappe.
