What the hell is going on?
As a millenial, I do see a growing problem, but not in the same way you do. I think a few crazies have more mediums to voice their opinions than ever before. But I know personally and the friends and people I associate with, these "issues" rarely come up, if ever discussed. The fact remains the same since our nation was founded. The people that are the most visible and most "obsessed" as you put it, having nothing better to do. I for one am more concerned about getting a good job, beginning to set myself up to where I do not have any debt, and providing a positive impact on my own sectors of society.
Yes nothing aggravated me more than to walk into class this past semester or year, and discuss Ferguson, Baltimore, or any other issue with inequality. In all honesty I do not care and most do not either. It may sound harsh or unconcerned but I really honestly do not care about the impoverished areas in Missouri and Baltimore and what goes on there.
We just as an age generation have grown up with the internet and social media, so naturally we are better at using it for our own purposes.
To answer your question in short: What the hell is going on? More classes of different socio-economic status are having their voices heard than ever before.

I'm complaining that your generation whines endlessly about how hard life is for them, when at best it is no worse than I had it, and very likely you have it a lot easier in economic terms.

Agreed. Except that in some ways they are better (social conscience) and in some ways they are worse (participant ribbon syndrome).
We didn't have it hard compared to some generations, and certainly not compared to most people in the world. But neither do you.

Or the fact that I run this lab and make under 30k a year.
30 years ago I would have made the same amount, only I could have done quite well for myself. Now I have to grind this out for two years and get bumped up.
In 15 years I'll be doing quite well, I'll be borderline foodstamps until then.

I deal with baby boomers everyday who make well over 6 figures and whine about there money all the time. I offer them every time to switch bank accounts, pay checks etc. None of them would do what I do for my paycheck, and I make better money than most people my age.

In its latest warning the country is headed for a long-term debt crisis without a major spending course correction, the Congressional Budget Office reported on Tuesday that the debt would surge to over 100 percent of the total Gross Domestic Product by 2040 or a lot higher if current optimistic economic assumptions prove wrong.
I was like all wtf is this reactionary crap? It ain't on my News Feed or my Instagram so how important can it be? "Gross Domestic Product"-like lol who talks like that?
