The project, once complete, will widen I-10 from the base of the Mississippi River bridge to the I-10/I-12 split. Completed in phases, Wilson estimates road work will take between five to seven years to finish.

This guy should be a weatherman!

5-7 years ??? 30-50% chance of rain. Seven day forecast.

In 7 years(worst guess) you could have built all if I-49 from Lafy to Shreveport.

They must be thinking about giving this project to Barber Brothers.

How many businesses were whining about impact while that bridge was being built? How many homeowners were whining about their land being taken for the right of way? Doing that was a hell of a feat but it didn’t have nearly the human factor involved with what this will take given that the main stretch from Acadian to the bridge goes through a lot of residential and commercial areas, including some big money ones like at the LSU lakes. It’s easier to deal with a project when you only have to deal with engineering restraints and not manage the bullshite of everyone tangentially involved with the road or property as well.

How much of that was in play when they built I-10 in the 60’s?

I’ve never heard of adding a lane to an existing structure, be it elevated or not, taking 7 fricking years to complete. That’s a really really really long time for a 4 mile stretch of road to be completed.

No, but I believe there are stricter standards now and sound barriers and wider shoulders are all part of that.

I do believe there are conceptual drawings somewhere on the DOTD website.

Just be aware of the 635/114/121 stack they are redoing now. txDOT is working on that, not NTTA so they may be a little slower. My trips to the airport may change a little.

This isn't even close to the Holy Grail needed for BR I-10 traffic. The only true solution is at least one more bridge that directs traffic around the city, not through it.

will the right washington street exit be eliminated. As long as you have idiots merging at the last minute because a lane runs out this won't fix much.

Use to bottleneck at 287 - I35W and within 2 years, at most, much better flow and wouldn't fall for the excuses for 5 to 7 years....this stretch isn't in some wilderness and accounts for a very fast growing area....sounds like typical Louisiana bs

Dallas also added A SECOND LEVEL to 635 in under 5 years. It would take Louisiana 50 years to pull something like that off. BTW, 635 express lanes are the tits!

As someone who takes 110 from downtown east at 5:00, I can tell you it will help but all the through trucks will still have to make it across several lanes to get lined up for 12. I feel for those guys every afternoon. It is a Shi! show trying to not only watch them merge, but then trying to get over again for 12.

My bro calls them the bougie lanes (He lives in Houma, was up for corporate training)

I was curious on the additional NTTA projects and I did not know that BUSH is being extended to I-20 and the DNT is being expanded all the way to Grayson County, which is like 35+ miles away from Uptown.

But LA will at least have a new lane to be happy about in BR in that time frame

In 7 years the population will have grown such that this improvement will be irrelevant.

Whats the projected population growth? With all the negativity on the OT about Louisiana you wouldn't think it would be booming.

Regionally, the population can grow between 7-14% in 10 years. That doesn't necessarily correspond to a direct increase in traffic on that particular section though.

Perhaps more importantly, freight traffic through the region can be much higher depending on the health of the national economy.

This project is an effort to play catch up. It doesn't meet any future needs. It barely addresses the demand for lane capacity today and it should have been done 25 years ago. If they wanted to look into the future, they would install 2 additional lanes in either direction instead of 1.

I just got one question.

I gotta ask, how does this project help the North Baton Rouge community? Because if it doesn't, we just lining the pockets of another rich white man.

When is gonna be our turn? How long we gotta wait til after slavery, til after the Civil Rights? When we gone get a piece of da pie?
