What the Frick? They just widened this several years ago. Why not do it right the first time?
Because it would cripple the Baton Rouge based Study Industry.

"the holy grail of traffic solutions...."
That would be a loop running south of BR

This section has never been widened or enhanced since it was built 60 years ago.

A loop will only get tougher the more south baton rouge and ascension grow. Between chemical plants and subdivisions, they are running out of viable locations for a southern loop.
You aren't tearing down a U-club type subdivision because it'll cost way too much and you aren't going to tear down a ghetto St.. Gabriel subdivion because racism.

Wait, they want to get rid of the overpass for car use? That makes even less sense.
Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of new parks in the city, but I'm already pissed they are closing the acadian on ramp and II use that overpass almost daily to avoid college and acadian.

I’m sure it would be dual purpose in this case.

agree- the real problem is the tight turn going onto the new bridge heading west. I do think it will help hour the east bounders on the bridge more.

they need to add a 3rd lane from Lafayette all the way to BR. Including the basin bridge.

They're not closing Washington St?

No, they are just making it to where you can't get to it unless you are on I-10 - so no more crossovers from I-110. The I-110 traffic that wants to get off on either Washington or Dalrymple will access it by the new Terrace Ave exit on the left hand side and underneath the spans, then on a new connector along side I-10.

Makes total sense. What do you not understand about it?
ETA: Current state, you can cross over all I-10 lanes to exit Washington from I-110, likely causing an accident in the process.
Future state, you will have to exit Terrace Ave on the left hand side if you are coming from I-110 and want to exit at Washington. You will still be able to exit at Washington if you are on I-10, but not I-110.

had to reread.
So how will they be able to add a new elevated lane? They have enough space?

I use the Perkins on and off ramp everyday, having to use Acadian is going to suck. Every morning and afternoon it will become the new College drive as almost everyone exiting there will be trying to get to Perkins to turn right or left, I don't see how that is not going to backup onto the interstate. At least until a heavy rain when the flooding under the train tracks causes mass pandemonium, then all bets are off.
I agree we need the new lanes, and eliminating Washington makes sense bc it isn't that widely used (and I guess technically it isn't being killed). Killing Perkins makes no sense with the amount of use it gets. I have some sympathy for the overpass businesses, but there were plenty other businesses and houses on the 10/110 route that got eliminated the first time around.

Not sure. I know they are expropriating some houses near Washington/Kentucky intersection. I guess they think they have enough space everywhere else.
I don't think the new combined Washington/Dalrymple exit/on ramp will be elevated in most sections. It has to match the grade of a turnaround underneath the spans somewhere around Washington street and tie into the Terrace exit underneath I-10. I also think it intersects with Washington Street.
That leads me to think that it may not be a surface lane and that they will build out the shoulders and the new continuous outbound lane on I-10 above it.
So they'll probably employ sound walls along the stretch. Probably going to require some retaining walls closer to Dalrymple.

Right. They seem to be routing the I-110 traffic that wants to exit there onto a left hand exit at Terrace. Then the I-10 traffic that wants to exit there or on Dalrymple gets off I-10 shortly after the curve, which could actually help ease traffic there by getting the LSU bound cars off the highway earlier.

I would like to see the Perkins ramps remain, but they think they can upgrade the Acadian ramps enough to accommodate that traffic. They are doing that because they need the space currently occupied by the Perkins ramps for the new outbound lanes and shoulders on I-10 and they don't want to knock down any businesses in the Overpass area.

I wonder if they can make that a single point interchange to help the traffic on Acadian. The additional left turn traffic on Acadian will probably cause some headaches.
