(I did have a coil replaced already but thankfully it was under warranty). Outside of warranty I think that's a $1600-2k arse bath.
i'm also reading they make a special epoxy to fix leaks.
do you always have to replace in these scenarios or is it just a matter of finding a competent repairman?

I have 3 Trane units. A 2 stage 3 ton and 2 1.5 ton units. I also sprayfoamed the exterior walls and attic and my electric bill has never been more than $130.

I'll get slammed but since Daikin bought Goodman the QC has been fantastic and is actually a very solid hvac unit.
bump.
hey itnever, where did you get the goodman unit? did you buy it yourself or for some of your clients?

Gas. Are we in Amish country all of a sudden?

I'm going on 3 years with my Trane with no problems. I pay 19.95 for a service contract. They come out once in summer, once in winter, to clean and inspect everything. I'm good about changing filters.
On a side note, I highly recommend A-1 air. They have a location in Baton Rouge and Port Allen. That's who did mine and everything works great.

If you're in BR, call Central Heating and Air and let them install a Trane...I promise they're the best price in town

I would NOT go with Trane.
Every time I get the annual checkup for either the heater or the AC there's something wrong with it.
My trane is running for 8 years now without a hickup.
Annual check-up?
You are getting screwed.

anyone else have experiences with goodman good or bad?

Have owned a bunch of homes and I have learned one thing about HVAC. Find an HONEST repair guy and treat him like gold. There is a bunch of BS from guys in that industry and they will screw you dry if given the chance.

I just bought a Trane 2 hours ago to replace a Goodman. Fun times in an 85 degree house.
But in looking around it doesn't look like Goodman's are inherently shitty or anything (although I did see a few comments to that effect).
FWIW the one I'm replacing is a 2002.

i was going by meauxjeaux's comments on page 1 that since daikin bought them out they've been producing solid units.
the unit i'm replacing is at least 30 years old.

what do you know about gas/electric all-in-one units?
i have one split unit which uses propane heat and i'm planning to extend the line to power this unit because i hate the heat pump i have now.
40k btu vs 60k but vs 80k btu is only about a $100 difference. why would i go with one over the other? does it have anything to do with how much gas is being delivered to the unit?

Link to a BTU calculator. Too many or not enough BTUs is not good.
LINK
The BTU Calculator estimates the amount of BTUs required to heat or cool homes based on the dimensions, insulation conditions, and the desired temperature changes.
