It was a 2ct blue diamond princess cut with too many other diamonds around it.
She turned it into a necklace and wears it with her new husband who bought her a bigger one.
She cheated on him too.

Quality of the stone is more important. Something near perfect in the 1 CT range is a great rock. Go bigger if that's what she wants.

I got off easy. My wife wanted her grandmothers' diamonds reset.

I think the ring I bought her years ago was a 3/4 carat diamond. The one she wears now is 2 carats.

My wife’s is about 1.5ct total with the main diamond being 1ct. Nothing huge.

I was able to use my grandmother's ring. Yeah, it's sentimental but I wasn't upset about saving a bunch of money. It's maybe a half carat (that's a generous estimate).

I had a jeweler friend custom make Mrs. Cotten’s. Picked out the diamond then he designed it around the actual stone.
Long story short, the first stone I picked out was a .69 carat shipped via USPS…after waiting a good 3 weeks my buddy called me and said two things:
1.) USPS contacted him that they “lost” the stone
2.) He had insured it for $2500 more than it was worth and wanted to make it up by putting another $2500 toward a new stone due to the troubles and wait.
So I got to select a new diamond worth $5k more than the original. It was a few years back but I think I went slightly bigger to right under a carat and up a bit in clarity. I told him “feel free to report this one lost as well”

It ain't about the size of the carat, it's about the cut and clarity.

Center is 1.26 carats. Total is 1.45 carats.
I did a lot of research on diamonds before purchasing.
Cut is the most important C. You want ideal cut
Color and clarity is next my wife's is H and VVS2
Once you figure out which cut, color and clarity you want, carat size is just a budget thing
If size is more important to her then the sparkle, don't get a real diamond.
First step though is to know which shape and ring style she wants

Same here except the diamond was from my side of the family. So the wife got a $18,000 ring that I could not have afforded at the time for basically free.

1.5 carat oval. You can get away with a smaller carat size and a bigger look if you go with an oval. It's more flat than deep so it looks bigger.
