15 mph, huh? You ever ridden a motorbike around that island?

It won't take a whole lot to get yourself in a bind with this one. There's not a whole lot in the way of high ground structures out there. Remote cams would be the way to go, for sure.
Yeah, most houses are at around 8 feet elevation (mine included). The coastal highway is around 7 feet. Michael storm surge cut across the coastal highway even though Mexico Beach is well to the west. No way out for some people (Alligator Point, St. Teresa, Mashes Sands to name 3) once the road goes under. My house is on pilings but I'm not sticking if there is a chance of Cat. 4 here. There's a decent chance I'll be in Tally tonight. There is no panic here at all, it was business as usual at Dollar General this morning. The only sign of a hurricane are the lines at the gas pumps. We're under "Mandatory Evacuation" which nobody pays any attention to.

Interesting that I & F are already the same size, but not yet the same intensity.

Tongue-in-cheek, cap. They do have the lowest speed limit in the world, though.

Hey Baw. This is going aboot 50 miles drom you, in Fernandina. Are you going to go stand on top of the old fort and ride it out?
Thats the plan. My wife is in town now getting some supplies. Tonight and tomorrow should be fun. The tides here are very different than our playground over there. Yesterday afternoon, it came up so high, it basically eliminated the beach other than the dune to block water from the homes. Crazy...

Amateur analysis I know, but looking at my radar app it seem like this thing is moving a bit west of due north. Could it come in west of Apalachicola? What is going to steer it east as the predictions show?

It’s getting picked up by a trough, which will ultimately turn it northeast.

Has Peej released his model runs yet?

How concerned should I be in the Savannah/Hilton Head area.

I live in the middle of the island, around 3/8 of a mile from the water. Shouldn’t be too bad here if the current track is accurate. Downtown streets may flood a little and could have power outages. We didn’t need anymore beach erosion, water has already been churned up from Franklin. Michael in 2016 was the closest call since I’ve lived here.

There will probably be flash flooding, minor storm surge, possible tornadoes

He said Idalia will be bad, which means there’s nothing to worry about. Won’t even reach cat 2

Not sure why you’re catching some DVs - Idalia will not be a very large storm, which is a silver lining.
Hoping it keeps that current track too. It really would be the best place for it to hit given the circumstances. Sucks for the fish tho

Am I looking at this right, is the GFS predicting it to move through Florida & Georgia and then loop back around and hit Daytona Beach? And the ECMWF has it bouncing off Bermuda and headed back towards Virginia?

Starting today at 5 p.m., Leon County will open four emergency shelters for the public in preparation for storm-related impacts.

Impressive outer feeder band noted east/southeast of the center (from the Florida Keys down through Cuba)...
Also...impressive how it effectively pushed out the dry air to the west by creating a wall (another sign of a healthy system)
