2001?

It went west to east right? Was the highest (2nd highest) watermark on the Amite River until 2016.

Smashed Houston as well.

Broke my foot playing four squares with my neighbors in the street at my parents house.

Good times

We were eating at the crab trap when the first wave came through we had already been seated thankfully. It blew across pretty quickly

I predict that whatever happens, they will blame the Trump weather service cuts for the other thing not happening.

Over 7 days, yes absolutely. We get more than that in one summertime thunderstorm.

As the forecasts stands, for sure. This will ultimately come down to a nowcasting event where we watch the radar as it unfolds. NWS discussion mentions the possibility of training thunderstorms, with rainfall rates of 2-4" per hour. This would obviously lead to much higher isolated totals.

Caparotta did mention the heaviest rains would be displaced to the SW of the center. Something to watch

Where is West Gulfport?
Other than west of Gulfport?
Dang, looked on a map.
And there is a "West Gulfport"
Appropriately located a mile or so due north of Gulfport.

I remember Allison and the rain.

I had moved to League City about six months before Allison hit. My girlfriend and I had gone to a bar the evening Allison hit thinking no big deal. I grew up in south Louisiana so a TS was no biggie. Well, I can say with absolute certainty, I have never seen so much water falling from the sky. It was incredible. Within a matter of 30 minutes the street in front of the bar went from no water to water three inches above the hood on my car. We tried to leave but ended up making it about 1/2 a block and stayed in a 7-11 parking lot that night. We watched vehicle after vehicle go into a deep canal between the road we were on. The entire area had simply become a lake with no way of telling where solid ground was located. Crazy night. Still amazes me just thinking about it. 40 inches of rain fell…that’s insane.
