Friend,

I do not enjoy suffering, but experiencing suffering may be the first requirement for writing about its virtues. The great mystic of the last century Simone Weil understood something about affliction that I have slowly come to recognize and that is that suffering does not merely hurt us. At its worst, it humiliates our belief that we are autonomous, important, and in control. It reduces the self until there is nowhere left to stand except in dependence upon something beyond the self.

Weil called attention the beginning of love, and perhaps affliction teaches attention by force, making us look at what we would otherwise ignore. I would not choose the wounds I have received, but I am increasingly grateful for what they have made impossible for me to believe about myself. There may be crushing defeat in affliction. But for those who put their faith in God and do not waiver, affliction opens the door to finding the meaning of Christ’s suffering.

May your illness be short and may you find God’s steadfast love and faithfulness in the darkness you now face.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

I never take most potential Louisiana hurricanes seriously until this thread gets stickied.

Yes. They are his personal floatation devices if NOLA floods.

Just keep in mind that some models are worth more than others. The data from the NHC from last season said the best performing models at 120 hours (day 5) were Google Deep Mind and the HCCA consensus aid. The GFS was dead last.

Correct. As he has iterated multiples times in this thread. It is a solution but not a likely solution (i.e. nonzero possibility, but less than 50% (else likely and unlikely have no meaning and sandpaper and hot sauce hjs reign supreme).

No concern here in the Florida Peninsula. Not liking that move west. Seems like the Euro (which I typically trust the most) has a Mississippi landfall now.

Seems like it will mostly be a rain event, but the entire gulf coast is already saturated, so flooding will be a significant concern.

I like the term “weather guessers” or “weather soothsayers.”

It is still too early to tell. I like to look at historical tracks to use as analogs to compare previous storms and their setups.

Looking back at strong El Niño years in recent years, I can’t remember a strong storm forming in that area coming up. We have had some in La Niña years like Opal in 1995 and Zeta in 2020. We even had Nate in 2017, but he formed further to the east in the Caribbean and came up to the Mississippi river before swinging east to Biloxi he was only a Cat 1 at landfall.

One storm that does come to mind is Post Tropical Cyclone Olga in 2019 that came up and gave Terrebonne Parish some heavy rains. 2019 was an El Niño year and was starting to flip in Late October.

By early this afternoon, you will start to have schools decide on High School football games on Friday and Wednesday organizations will decide if their events will happen this weekend. The saving grace is that it looks like the system should be out of here by Saturday night and into Sunday.
