The impact of Helene on Gulf temps has come up a lot. Here is an update from Andy:

I can not imagine being on Anna Maria Island right now cleaning up all that mess and seeing that forecast. They have been removing 5 feet of sand off most of the island all week

Unreal...

It doesn't look like milk and cookies for you either. Good luck down there.

For those impacted by Helene I’m hoping this one goes more eastward than northward and hits the Everglades but that is not the trend right now.

I’ve been in that ‘not again’ mode several times like after Ida and it’s a helpless nerve-wracking experience.

I am in a new house with metal storm shutters. Our ponds are low right now too which is a good thing. My business is another story. I honestly dont even know what to do there if that path comes true. 3 miles from the coast. Second floor of a concrete building. Roof is good but there at 3 windows that could be a issue. May just cover all my shelves inside like I did with Ian if that path holds

It is pretty rare for a storm to form in this area in October and move from west to east.

Some more context as to how rare:

The eye is supposed to roll aboot 20 miles south of me. I have a 2022 roof and have been close to a bunch of hurricanes in this house. We've got this.

‘We got this, Jameis.’ And I said. . . we said. . . I said, ‘Are you strong?’ They said, ‘I’m strong if you strong.’ I said, ‘We strong, then.’

Number of hurricanes is really meaningless when they predict these things

All it takes is one

I'm just glad that Dr. Cowen takes breaks from his neurosurgery practice to drop some weather knowledge on us
