Today show in full panic/fear mongering mode saying it’s strengthening to Cat 3

TBF it only needs to increase wind speed one mph to get there

It’s been forecasted to strengthen midday before it starts to weaken as it approaches the coast.

I know, not fear mongering. I was just hoping it would struggle more through the night

Look at the projection, the giant tropical storm S at 1pm Saturday is pretty much exactly Tuscaloosa Alabama , and they are holding steady with a football game 5 hours later

Am I crazy for thinking that maybe a disaster with the trees and power outages etc around the area needing all emergency personnel and such?

Watching NWS put up High Wind Watches for a tropical system makes me want to scream.

Yes- I know- don’t get me started on the Sandy fiasco.

They’re not wrong. The forecast from NHC has it at cat 3 later this morning

In just glad I didn’t wake up to see it at 145 mph. I remember with Ida that happened and several others

Typically, of course not always, hurricanes, by the time the center reaches Tuscaloosa, will have diminished greatin strength and the storms or no worse than one of your summertime afternoon thunderstorms.

Certainly, treses might be blown over, but widespread damage would not be expected

Its projected as as a tropical storm while over Tuscaloosa. That isn’t an afternoon thunderstorm.
Tropical storms absolutely produce widespread damage

We have become so immune to things because of modern times. Louisiana people think “category 1 and 2s aren’t a big deal”, while others think tropical storms aren’t a big deal

Both are very very wrong

Oh no- that’s a post-tropical- hence no TS warnings north of there.

So it’s all good no matter the wind speed if we make the circle white.

People wonder why nerds are hated and this is why.
