Tulane= Top 5 offense in CFB

Trying to figure things out right now??

Where’s Ole Miss?

They are #11 actually. The top 20 was posted yesterday.
The LSU replies in this thread are displaying serious meltiness.

quote:

I’m rooting for UVA in round 1 And Indiana in round 2 Easy wins then hope for a miracle

I looked at win probabilities before Kiffin left by round and I had the title probability about 17%.

The best strategy is a good draw for the combo of rounds 1 and 2. Once you get deeper, you’ll almost certainly run into better teams with win probabilities I had at significantly under 50% BUT hoping for a good round 1 opponent and a provable good round 2 opponent is best.

Not a large sample size but homefield advantage in round 1 was huge last year.

This makes a lot of sense. I think it was a smart move for Ole Miss to hire Golding right now. Priority one was securing as much continuity as they could for the playoff run. If Golding turns out not to be the right guy, cut bait and move on. With the advent of the transfer portal, coaching hiring mistakes are nowhere near as catastrophic as they used to be. .

Golding also knows what the deal is. He’s gonna get paid big time so it’s great financially but it’s relatively low pressure for him to the extent that it’s not some huge professional setback if things don’t go great.

Getting a great payday when the expectations are not very high is a great deal. The drive and focus should still be there…the CFP is a huge opportunity and I think he really has a team that’s going to feel like it wants to prove something. None of that will guarantee results and I have concerns that they will lose some of their operational efficiency.

The upside possibility is that Golfing has worked for both Kiffin and Golding. This means he is probably well acquainted with Saban’s process as well as how Kiffin deviated and/or adapted to it.

In the normal course of business, it would suggest that he’d be a high risk/high reward type of hire. I have my reservations because I never wanted to lose Kiffin and it’s we’d have to get a top 10% type of outcome with the hire to be equivalent to Kiffin but that certainly leaves the possibility of it occurring. The opposite side of the probability curve is very bad but I think we will just be prepared to make a quick exit.

I don’t think there will be any hard feelings if we do because he knows the deal coming in and gets a huge payday.

The upside 10% probably would include a natty. That would obvious be fantastic on its own but it would also give him recruiting and portal clout that would be second to almost no one.

FWIW, LSU fans would probably hate it but I think the upper level people at LSU would secretly love that outcome because it would also boost the LSU brand and it would give LSU that mega rivalry national showcase that OM largely hasn’t fulfilled - particularly from the 70s thru 2010s (exception being the Eli years which culminated in a very high profile game, an LSU natty, and the infamous 2003 west co-champs banner).

I don't think anyone is talking themselves into anything. Let's wait and see how he does. He could be an excellent head coach. He might not be. Regardless, we had to secure the program in the here and now.

I am obviously hopeful that he does fantastic but I am also realistic.

Why is LSU going to pay bonuses to Lane Kiffin if Ole Miss wins some playoff games? Sexton worked Verge over.

Maybe Lane exited too harshly and they wanted to incentivize Lane not to gut OM?
quote:

Did he? How? The media created the firestorm.

The firestorm helps LSU. Embrace it.

How do you think you will benefit from it? You think he will suck here?

No. The storyline here is lightning in a bottle.
quote:

I don’t have it in front of me but the BR newspaper reported he had signed with LSU and there was a $5.7 million penalty if he left before next season.

I don’t know what exactly transpired, however, I’ve done a little math and it seems likely that some suits walked in and threw some numbers on the table.

Provided both teams are good/decent, the estimated advertising revenue for the Magnolia Bowl alone is approx. $50 million.

That’s just one game. That doesn’t count LSU hate watching all season.

This number increases exponentially if OM advances to the semis or better in the CFP.

That number decreases significantly from that baseline to the extent that OM sucks.

If both teams are very good and OM is defending CFP, numbers will be break all CFB ratings records.

CFB is a business. It helps both schools immensely if OM does well. They obviously can’t control what happens on the field but they can control some of the tools. Likewise, there’s probably a gentlemen’s agreement with regard to reasons limits on poaching.

quote:

Go ahead and explain the hypocrisy.

Deals were made that benefit both schools and the conference.

What’s crazy is in my mind I have been thinking we only have him for about 5 to 6 years and he’ll probably go off to greener pastures, probably NFL. But now, with this whole shite storm from everyone in the media and Ole Miss, he might be parking at LSU for quite some time. We might be thanking you guys in the long run for all of this character bashing for Lane.

It benefits us as long as he’s there, too.

There's half a dozen topics about Ole Miss on here started by LSU fans. But it goes beyond that.

Let them. You know what they say about publicity. It’s true.
quote:

are you seriously trying to say Ole Miss is just as good a job as LSU? 2nd tier was generous imo

No. LSU is bigger but you are clearly living in the past.

The concept of tiers within the SEC is being very clearly eroded to the point of no longer mattering.

Meanwhile, old “blue blood” programs like Nebraska have been left behind.

You could argue that the entire SEC is tier 1 in CFB.

Because the first round matchup for the 7 seed is significantly harder than the first round matchup for the 6 seed.

So, he thinks he should be ranked ahead of who exactly?

After this 6 year historic run at your school( and with everything that has happened these last couple of weeks) do you regret that your school hired Lane Kiffin? If you could go back and change that decision, would you? Only honest answers please! :)

Most likely, he’ll the up being the best thing that ever happened to OM football- but short and long term.

His exit is going to give us endless publicity and brand recognition.

People ask why I can just roll with this. Ole Miss has been on top of the national news cycle (not just sports news) for nearly a week, That never happens to ANY football team, let alone Ole Miss.

quote:

Ole Miss is a 2nd tier SEC job, and would be happier accepting that reality.

I love these agenda posts. I notice these never come from Bama or Georgia fans.

Why is that?
quote:

The U isn't back until they have a couple felons on the roster

The U has been replaced by LS-U as the bad boys of CFB.
quote:

About midway through the hostage negotiations even Ole Miss fans and administrators turned on Lane. They loved him so much at the end they showed up at the airport to wish him farewell. Heck, according to Lane they loved him so much they tried to run his vehicle off the road. Now that is true love. LSU’s highly capable and intelligent AD was worried that Ole Miss fans would shoot missiles at the LSU booster’s planes as they approached Oxford. Ole Miss fans are going to shower Lane with presents when he brings LSU to Vaught-Hemingway next season. It is yet to be seen if they will be able to acquire missiles by then.

Our plan is to turn you into a yellow Death Star and Lane into the Sith Lord. Meanwhile, the good guys in the red, white and blue will be waiting to hold off the Empire.??

I’m pretty sure Lane killed the dog, BTW.

Lane elevated Ole Miss. Expect a drop there.

Lane just put us in the middle of one the greatest CFB stories of all time. I bet the Ole Miss-LSU game next year alone will boost our annual rating.

Lane Kiffin remains the greatest single asset to OM football. As long as he is there, he will benefit Ole Miss.

Yes, and all of these storylines between schools even add more to the drama.
