Hurricanes don’t have momentum.

Maybe so. But Katrina surely had it.

Rain hitting in gulf shores.
All shutters rolled down.
Spent 10 min rescuing a bird that was trapped in pool lanai. Felt good to curse so much in the AM.
Waking up fam, picking up mother in law, then heading west to Baton Rouge.

A fast moving, high wind speed hurricane can be described as having momentum. Storm surge as well.

Center is starting to appear on Mobile radar

The radar is only detecting a small part of the eyewall that is the small area far south. All of that area that appears clear now cannot yet be detected by radar that far out and through all the weather ahead of it and will appear as the center moves north.

Looks like it took a little east jog on the last few radar frames.

Okay but I’m going to need you to give us a jog distance in terms of “H”

It’s been forecasted to strengthen midday before it starts to weaken as it approaches the coast.

I dont think it has much more time to continue strengthening. Im expecting peak strength sometime early afternoon. Shear will eventually get to it.

Ever since around 8 pm last night the storm has looked a lot more impressive and symmetric. Looks like it shielded itself somewhat from drier air currently.

Had there not been sheer, this thing would have exploded in intensity in completely untapped deep warm Gulf waters

Yeah. As bad as Sally was, it made landfall at 965 mb and 110 mph.

This is potentially about the same unless it really starts to weaken soon. Only about 10 to 12 hours until projected landfall.
