The Euro didn't anticipate Harvey strengthening. It was pretty off on the pressure if I remember correctly.

Are they live streaming from a boat?

Then it's not live and not Irma.

Euro was probably the most accurate overall on the projected path with Harvey though.

She's really pulling some heat off the ocean today. I'd imagine she'll look all sorts of nasty by tonight.

From what I'm hearing on the local news down here, people are actually preparing. Hardware stores seem to have lines of people buying plywood, and stores are starting to sell out of water, sidewalk bolts and wing nuts for hurricane shutters, and other supplies. There's still plenty of time for stores to get new truckloads of supplies in, also, so I think those that procrastinate will still be able to get their supplies too later in the week. In June of this year, we had some heavy rains that flooded areas that usually have no flooding at all. It was a huge wake-up call. Of course, seeing what folks in Texas are going through with Harvey has been a good reminder of how important it is to prepare also.

The Governor has asked people to prepare, and reminders are going out for people to check on elderly family, friends, and neighbors, and those with special needs and to consider pets' needs. I have a very elderly dog with health issues, so I'll be pre-cooking 2 weeks worth of food for him and freezing it, and picking up some new heart medicine and extra insulin for him tomorrow. This storm looks like it'll be a monster, but we can't say we didn't have time to put some supplies together.

Looks like Florida is prepping ... they need to!

another disturbing issue in that dropsonde data is it looks like whatever shear was inhibiting the storm's development is going away (as predicted)

high level winds (WNW) are getting close to being the same as the low levels (W)... which means shear is going away

12z Euro EPS & Control shift SW from 00z. The control makes it to the Keys before turning NE and a number of EPS members make it into the Gulf. Panhandle takes a number of hits.

HWRF gets tangled up with Cuba and is showing no signs of the northward turn at the end of the run.
