Stood in line for 4-5 hours trying to get on the ferry out of Vieques. No luck.

Got lucky and paid someone to bring us back on a private boat.

Flight for Wednesday got canceled. Trying to find my way to the hotel in San Juan.

Man this is tough. Will literally fly out to anywhere tomorrow if possible. I might have to leave my group.
call the airlines ASAP. call the airline that cancelled your flight and GTFO ASAP.

936 is still a pretty mean storm
True, but it's no 887 type of monster that'll flatten the earth in its path.

Umm.. the 1900 Galveston Hurricane had a pressure of 936 at landfall.

Can anyone Summarize what 12z means?

12:00 Z(ulu) time is UTC (Coordinated Univesal Time - which would be abbreviated CUT but the French translation would have been TUC...so they settled on the abbreviation UTC which means nothing to avoid offending anyone - I shite you not).

Basically, Central Daylight time is 5 hours behind UTC. So, take your current time in 24 hour format - 1342 and add 5 hours to get 1842Z.

Thanks. I'm sure those building codes 117 years ago were maybe a bit lax, though.

Sure, but they took refuge in a car wash that lost its roof. Their plan was shoddy.

I fixed it. Sorry I thought the Category was predicted in the future 11 Sept. to be off the scale? We shall see. Sensibly couldn't it be a Cat 4-5?

How long after 12z, 18z, etc. do the new forecasts get released? For instance, 1pm CDT would have been 18z. When can we expect 18z forecasts?

Those are the two go to global models but the Euro has a better recent track record and better computers and resolution compared to the GFS.

I still think we're firmly in ensamble land looking for probabilities of impact with the current uncertainty in the developing pattern over the Contential United States.

Think everyone is kinda looking around for flights, but not too actively. I have 2 people at home calling all the airlines for me. Hopefully they can find something.
