First post here, but I am worried about Liz, sure hope she is ok. The information here is priceless, too bad we have to wade through all the bullshite to get it.

Everyone, Liz checking in. We made it, unscathed. The rest of the neighborhood is under water and today was the first day we had cell service and could actually get out of the neighborhood. Besides some flooding in areas and no power for the next 10 days or so, the area looks to have survived pretty well.
Watching the eye wall pass from my patio was one of the most awesome and terrifying things I have ever seen.
We are all exhausted and feel like we have battle fatigue.
Thanks OT, for all the thoughts.

Really glad you're safe ... lsunurse was keeping us posted via your FB page with friends checking in on you.

Someone here mused about whether or not you'd evacuate next time given the same conditions/forecast. Stay or go? I'm thinking a generator purchase will be in your future at some point.

Again, really glad you're good! Hope the pup is fine as well.

Anything to describe the shite ton of wind sounds? Naples was clocked around 142 for a gust, so you probably felt a little of that.
Glad y'all came out alright.

None of my family in Ocala has power yet and gas is scarce and lines are long.

Can't ask for much else. Been worried about the flooding since reports came out Bonita Springs got a lot of water.

Awesome enough I'd like to see one in person one day, terrifying enough I want to do it in a concrete structure that isn't my own property. Glad you made it.

Good luck in the clean up and recovery.

NHC did a good job with a tough forecast.

Took this from storm2k:

The Euro actually outperformed the NHC, which is pretty incredible considering how well the NHC did here.

But you left out the most important detail: Did the ropes added the morning of the storm save your new tree?

Glad y'all are okay. You had some people genuinely worried after your posts stopped. Hope Irma moves from traumatic experience to exciting adventure sooner rather than later in your memories. Take care.

The tree made it and the neighbors damn pine stood strong. Flooded in and no power for 2 weeks. Neighbor is letting us co-use his gen and we have a fridge and 2 fans. mattress is on the dining room floor and those fans are a godsend. HankDog is hot, but we all are. Braved the floodwaters in a lifted truck and went to work for a couple of hours today. Water is high and sketchy, will be home in the heat till it recedes. I have a cool vid from the height of the storm. Don't know how to upload and frankly too tired.

Glad to see you're in one piece, Liz. I'm sorry you'll have to go through the water receding and no electricity. Hopefully, they'll be some efforts to get more fuel and generators in. A window unit would be a godsend. I've had power backups and appliances since Ivan ready for a storm, and have used them three different times.

Gonna get a perm generator on the house. We had back up cell phone chargers but the towers went out. Just waiting out the flood waters now. A neighborhood not far took on 6' of the Imperial River. And not an affluent neighborhood like most around here. Sad...Still don't know how KW and others faired. I had 125 emails when I got to work so cln't really check. We are so tired. Helping people cut trees, siphon gas from a car to a generator, etc. Come home to a hot house. But, in light of Katrina and the Flood of '16, I need to STFU. Thank you, everyone!

No power can be pretty miserable. Hopefully it's not really hot and humid. Fans help, but having open windows and listening to the generator run all night gets old fast. A few days after Isaac, I just started shutting the generater down at night because of the noise (and fuel consumption). It's hard to get any quality rest.

A small window unit goes a long way to making life more tolerable. Just cooling one room to sleep in will make a huge difference.

I'm not sure how long of an extension cord you're running from your neighbor's house. The longer the run, the larger the voltage drop. It may be possible to unplug your fridge at night and run a small window unit. The fridge will stay cold overnight if it stays closed.

It might be hard to find a generator, but perhaps a window unit can be had. Just make sure to size it to the generator.

Final note: Generally speaking, I've found the post storm restoration estimates given by power companies tend to be on the conservative side. It might not be two weeks. Hope they get y'all energized in the next few days.
