I hope it doesn't strengthen again
NHC seems to think it will get back to 140mph before landfall:

The interaction of Irma's circulation with Cuba has resulted in
some weakening of the hurricane. Data from an Air Force plane
indicate that the maximum winds are now 110 kt. However, once the
circulation moves away from Cuba, restrengthening is forecast and
Irma is expected to remain a very dangerous hurricane for the next 2
days while moving very near the Florida peninsula.
The eye has been moving toward the west or 280 degrees at about 8
kt. The hurricane is about the reach the southwestern portion of
the subtropical high, and the expected turn to the northwest and
north-northwest should begin soon. The track guidance is tightly
packed and takes the hurricane over the Florida Keys and near or
over the Florida Peninsula. The NHC forecast is in the middle of
the guidance envelope and given the good agreement among models, the
confidence in the track forecast is high.
Irma is now under the scope of Key West radar, so hourly updates
will begin at 1600 UTC.

liz they are still predicting a restrengthening as a Cat 4.
We figured last night you are ok from surge.
The tornado threat will be very real. You will be in the eastern front.
Depending on where she comes in, in terms of miles to you will determine the wind projection.
Current track still has you in the NE Wall.

I think you people owe Bob Breck an apology.
frick him and his little novella, begging for Irma to come to my house so he can say he was right, like he was fricking owed it. I didn't read all of his mindless diatribe but he wanted it to wreck my house so that people will evac when told to net time.
I am old but will dip him in bruised, cherry lime-ade behind the Sonic.

Did you see my post with the 3 5-day projections? I understand your point, you're just wrong in this case.
For this particular hurricane I actually agree with you about the path. I've thought West Florida/panhandle for the get-go but know I don't have the "street cred" to post predictions on here.
I just don't like seeing regular people who are in the potential path of this thing talked down to for being worried about trusting trajectories based on multiple meteorological variables.

My dad just texted that he put me and my SO on the Sheriff's list to contact after the storm. Really, Dad? Thanks but that's not making me feel better.
Oh, and he said to "keep ID on you".
We aren't gonna die here, house may be damaged. This isn't Haiti. Ugh, I don't need more stress.

Living in Tampa, is it a good idea to leave and set up in Orlando if you have a place to stay?
If you can do it efficiently it wouldn't be a bad idea. Tampa has a 70% chance of seeing 64kt+ winds, Orlando only has a 32% chance. Tampa's winds could be much more extreme too.

If a significant system ever threatens Louisiana the admins need to do FAQ section
We need to make a hurricane glossary and faq thread in the off season. Then make Rummy go find it and sticky it when a hurricane gets turning.

They should be worried if they're in the cone. I know that's turning into a meme at this point, but it's true. The NHC is very good at what they do.

Thanks, I'll pass the info. Looks like it's pretty smooth sailing from his house to Orlando. The house is approximately 2 miles from Bay as the crow flies. With the storm surge now firmly in play, I think it's the right move but wanted other opinions.

Irma now a Cat 3. Cuba hurt her more than they thought.
The NHC readily admits intensity forecasting is little more than an educated guess at this point. That is their biggest area for improvement, but it's not easy.

Well I mean, you have to understand people are worried for you.. I'd always take into consideration what I'd be doing to my parents if I stayed behind... truth is, you should have left and your parents have a right to be concerned
I wouldn't argue with you about it though, I respect your decision

I'm staying put. I have two places to stay in Gainesville, but we're in flood zone E here. I'm not too worried

Stop clogging up the thread, if you don't agree with something then leave. Nobody cares about your trig studies

So much for that South Carolina/North Carolina direct hit that the "cone" was showing 2-3 days ago with zero of the panhandle in the cone.

Bob Breck wants this thing to get into the GOM and hit a gulf coast state so bad his little broke dick can't stand it.

Dude should be banned from this thread. The arguing should be in another thread.
