Cuba is death to hurricanes. Even skirting the land drastically weakens them.

After looking at the GoM wind vectors, I'm even more confused as to what inevitably pushes Irma N from the Westward trend. I wish someone more knowledgeable than myself could explain this to me.

It's much easier to see on the 200mb wind map...

That low that dives in over Mississippi pulls air around its edge counterclockwise. This pulls Irma up and over.

Way too early to say that. All of the models have consistently showed significant restrengthening coming off the Cuban coast into Florida. That's concerning.

I am going to tell y'all a dumb story. Flame me as needed. My neighbor, (We can call her Needy) always needs help and wants something. (Nope, she looks like a 4'10 fat troll doll)

She calls me yesterday while I am reading the hurricane thread. My caller ID told me not to answer it but I did. She gave me the sugar coated "How are you?", which always leads to the favor. She said, "Do you still have that truck?" Now understand that I have lived net to her for about 10 years and she sees my driveway every time she comes home.

Bottom line, she is at Lowe's and has just bought 7 sheets of plywood, then discovered that they would not fit in her fricking Prius. I get to the Lowe's parking lot and the hard rain begins. I get it all loaded up while she is manning the texting part of her cell phone.

We got home and I dumped the plywood. She already had a crew to install it so I was uninvolved.

TLDR: Plywood doesn't fit in a Prius.

You can't just look at 200mb, that is why a lot of people use the DLM as a rule of thumb. However, actual storm motion is even more complex than that, esp. in the short term.

SE Florida definitely did. Most homes here are build to withstand anything we will get at this.

If you've ever flown over Tampa/Tanpa bay you know it's going to likely be very ugly with this storm surge. Really feeling for those folks right now. Obviously the entire peninsula should have been preparing in a perfect world , but I'm sure that they really liked their chances two days ago.

Yeah I'm just trying to show a map that highlights the feature expected to take her north. I understand it is far more dynamic than that.

Just answer the fricking question instead of downvoting. I'm asking bc I don't know the answer.

Cool, I was pointing that out for people who might not get that. The 200mb loop you posted would suggest that Irma should have much more of NE component than it will as it heads north. The weakness that allows the north turn and then NW turn is more in the 500mb flow. Also, when looking at 500mb and 200mb it becomes obvious that shear will drastically increase as the system moves north.
