tell me what will cause it to turn north so abruptly?

Took image from Wyatt Erminger over at stormcastforums.

Those little circled swirrles over the planes are digging down toward the central gulf coast. They have a counter-clockwise flow. They will give Irma a little north push at the upper levels. At the same time, they serve to help erode the big Bermuda high a little on the western edge and open up the path north. It's not going to run right at the upper low pushing it away. It's not going to run at the high pressure setting up over the four corners and Texas extending over toward Louisiana area. So...she goes north.

Actually the track has shifted about 150-200 miles west in 24 hours. The peninsula is 100 miles across and it went from being 50 miles east of Miami to right off the west coast

think you might be overstating how quick that happened

Not a single person in here has said the Panhandle is safe. Who the hell said that? If you've been reading the thread you have been warned for an entire week you were in the west side of the error. Models had them targeted several days ago.

RDS even said yesterday that it's more likely they get hit than the east coast and he seems to be right because the tracks keep shifting westward. It's not big shifts but it's still trending that way.

much appreciated man - her Uncle was very set on staying and then it was too late for them to leave - for younger people it would likely be ok to get out, but with them.....yeah its bets they don't get on the road at this point

Taking a gamble and going back to jville from Pensacola tonight and then likely back to west palm. Don't want to take over a week to get back.

We left Tampa at 4. Went up 98, pretty slow going and headed to north Carolina. There are places that have gas for anyone else that heads that way.

It's gonna take 20 hours probably but least we will be safe and don't have to worry about it anymore. Hoping when we come back it's like we left it.

Do you think? We were hearing 70-90 sustained...Is it going to be that bad? Thanks Slack!!!

I said a reasonable chance. The Euro has a landfall essentially in your home town. 30 miles one way or the other will matter quite a bit, but it's certainly possible.

Not trying to scare you, just sharing some experience so you'll know what to expect.

I lived 75 miles inland when Katrina hit as a Cat 3. We had no water to deal with (you might) but we had 10 solid hours of 100mph sustained winds. When I tell you this is not fun, I mean this scared the hell out of me. It removed all my shingles, it toppled most trees around the house(never heard the first one hit the ground) and it even cracked the brick on the side of my house because the outside wall was pulsating.

After it was over, no power(two weeks),no ice and no gas because no one had power...no one...so you can't leave.

It was 100 in the shade. Mosquitoes were brutal. And no escape.

I'll say a prayer for you. But I wish y'all would reconsider.

It's been getting further west every update and now barley hugging the western part of the peninsula. Another 36 hours of that and this thing is coming to Panama City (where I'm at).

I'd write two thousand words to highlight your jackassery, but I don't have to because I have two pictures.

5pm EDT Thursday

5pm EDT Friday

Rummy, can we PLEASE get the other thread started?

Rummy, its time to start the thread where you permaban the "OMG the track shifted 10 miles West" idiots,

Actually the track has shifted about 150-200 miles west in 24 hours. The peninsula is 100 miles across and it went from being 50 miles east of Miami to right off the west coast

I'm noticing "shifted"" is the ultimate trigger word in this thread.

Maybe just cut over to like Destin/PCB for the night and check the guidance tomorrow. By then, you'll have a better idea how dialed in the west coast solution is and more time for the pros to have the finer details for Jax down the east coast of Florida impacts will be.

It's a big storm. Jacksonville down the east coast will feel some impacts. So I'd suggest waiting a little longer to get the best information you can have before just running back to the peninsula.

Any time anyone here dared to question the north turn, they were quickly shown images and graphs and comments like "for the thousandth time" here's why it's gonna go right up the peninsula.... along with eye rolling emojis etc.

Prime example, look about 3 or 4 posts up from this with the "idiots" that say shifting west.
