It's all within the cones. The models aren't coming from the future, they won't be exact.

Oh FFS. The models showed that the center of the storm was projected to go up the eastern Florida coast. The western side of the 3 day cone had SW Florida in the possible path.

Taking a gamble and going back to jville from Pensacola tonight and then likely back to west palm. Don't want to take over a week to get back.
We almost went to P-cola from Jax, but decided to stay, but head a few miles inland, for the same reason, as the storm shifts more and more west.

100% chance it goes north
Somewhere between Florida and Texas

Thanks Roach. I think we are bound and determined to stay. I really thank you for following up. The idea of hitting the road just...no. Home is a fortress, and if not, we have gear in the truck, ready to go. Again, thank you, especially White Roach, for looking out for your fellow OT'ers. This has been an adventure already and is abo
A good friend of mine is an ex cop/fireman that grew up and lives in Naples, and he's staying. Let me know if you or your family needs help after the storm passes.

How much wind/water can a bridge withstand before it topples ? I am specifically asking in regards to all the bridges that construe Highway 1 from Key Largo to Key West. I know that cruise ships dock in Key West, so supplies could be delivered via water or air, but I wonder how severely the lower keys would be affected if part of the highway was damaged so bad that it cut off vehicular traffic from the Florida mainland. Obviously it remains to be seen, as all homes/structures in the keys could be leveled depending where Irma makes landfall and at what severity. Just something I was thinking about.

Removing the path I wouldn't be against that. People would just see a cone and be like well shite it's time to prepare. And yeah, it says that in the graphics but people don't read these days anyway apparently.

Yea I know, it's gotta be so frustrating to refute this crap over and over.

Katrina took out part of the twin span so it's possible.

Dude shut the frick up, you have no idea what you are talking about. It might hit these places, they are in the cone but the gulf is no warmer than the water its in now
I also doubt you have been projecting this landing spot

I'm just waiting for someone to pop in and say "WTF, now Missouri is in the cone???!!!"

quote:I beg to differ. I don't recall anyone stating that it would definitively go up the peninsula. Many have been certain that it would make the turn north, but it's always been a question of when. Those in the know in this thread have said to ignore the forecasted track and pay more attention to the cone. Parts of the panhandle have been included in the cone most of the time
Any time anyone here dared to question the north turn, they were quickly shown images and graphs and comments like "for the thousandth time" here's why it's gonna go right up the peninsula...

There's a very competent Canadian Company that can react really fast. For Katrina, they were on site within a week and putting up temporary 'arches' where the I-10 bridge had spans washed away. I talked to one of the engineers. THey bring their own lodging, kitchens, etc. I expect whoever owns it is pricing new luxury cars for himself and his key staff as I type this.
