Peter Island is destroyed. Still no word from Virgin Gorda, Anegada, Norman Island (no one really lives there but there is a resort and the Willie T) or Anegada.
Yeah Anegada got hit by Earl a few years ago and never really recovered

More houses will make it than not, but it's all the shite you go through during and after the storm that isn't worth it.
It's not just the physical side, but the mental damage. friends (two from Katrina, the other two from Rita) simply have never been the same and one died way too young a year after K.

Correction...she is in Homestead (a mandatory evacuation area) and has two small children less than 2 years old. She says she is well stocked on baby formula.
Those kids should be taken away and placed with people who aren't fricking idiots.

Even worse resources are stretched thin as it is from Harvey. In talking about just electric company services, I'd imagine Florida shares companies like much of the Gulf Coast. This could potentially be worse than Katrina. Some areas here that were harder to get to actually took 2-3 months to get power but that was mostly low population isolated areas like camps. In Katrina they had to go and grab thousands of employees from up North who were not familiar with the lines around here just to help. It created a massive clusterfrick too. I remember some dude wired our road wrong and he pointed the fuse wrong way. Not only that, each time it rained it was guaranteed to go out until an Entergy man finally fixed it a few months later.

I wonder what that storm is going to do for those on the north side of Lake Okeechobee. My brother lives right there, you could hit a 9 iron into the lake. Can't imagine what this storm is going to churn up across that lake and when it hits to north shore.
He said you can't evacuate, there is no place to go. Interstates are bumper to bumper already.

Just googling around found these guys sitting around doing a radio talk show in Key West. The shops are boarded up but they don't seem to be in any hurry to leave. Why do they want to go through this, do they want to die?
I mean, it would be like, on 9/11 being told the buildings will be attacked and still going up (I am not talking about first responders of course, that is their gig, I a talking Wal Street employees, restaurant diners, I mean if you know the towers are gonna be hit, LEAVE!).
Now in Key West - fellahs, get the hell out, you could die! What is wrong with these guys? You might not bear the brunt per the latest news (which keeps changing every few minutes it seems) but still.

The Governor said earlier today that mandatory evac means to leave. Don't call 911 because nobody is coming. Leave.

Yeah I saw that. When they say they won't endanger the lives of first responders...that should be your clue.
But every storm you have some person that lived through whatever older, big storm....and they think it means they are ok. Nevermind the fact that each storm is different. Or that maybe decades of new development now makes their home more at risk for flooding.

I have a friend in Stuart FL that is lurking this thread. He has a one month old and plans to stay. Am I the only one that thinks he is crazy?
