So now Jose could also hit South Florida?
Some loops send him out to sea, while others complete the loop back to the US. Too early to tell.

Just reading the latest this morning. So here in HHI, am I feeling better about this making landfall in our area as a cat 1 or so? Or is it still too early?

Not really, at least to me. Throw some lat/long on there and see:

Wife and I left our home at 5 PM EST yesterday.
I drove nonstop (except for gas where I could find it) 498 miles to my MIL's house.
I pulled into their driveway less than a half an hour ago.
Took over 14 hours just to make those 500 miles due to traffic and trouble finding gas.
Needless to say, I'm a little bit tired and I feel like I am behind on Irma news.
I am making a cup of coffee right now, can someone please post whatever the latest model/projection currently is or link me to it?

Still too early, but the NHC track has Irma @ 120 mph in 4 days, right before the second landfall, then weakening to 85 mph in 5 days when she's fully on land.

Where is your home?
You did the right thing regardless.

my brother who lives on the beach in Ft.Lauderdale has a flight out tomorrow but decided not to risk it being cancelled and rolled out in the middle of the night. I was glad to get the text that they had hit the road because I was pretty nervous. They are just north of Orlando heading to our place in Bay St. Louis.

Come to Baton Rouge for the weekend. We are having exquisite weather. Unseasonably cooler temps, blue skies and the first home game of the season. Take the kids to tailgate, see Harvey (Mike), then go to the new Knock Knock museum.
Count our lucky stars this happened.
Reason why Irma turned north instead of plowing into the gulf.

At minimum Irma will come on shore as a Cat 4.
If they get the NE eye wall, they will experience what we all saw on Jeff's Periscope during Harvey.
Show him that periscope. If he thinks he can manage that. Then there's no really convincing him to leave.
Hell tell him look at the dang island damage. That's mostly wind and surge. Not rainfall like Harvey.

I've only been to HHI once so I am not supremely familiar but I definitely would not want to be there for this storm.

I have said this a few times... it continues to move a tad more west than WNW. I would really like to see it gain a bit more latitude today. For example, in the past 8 hours it has gained 1.9 degrees longitude vs 0.6 degrees latitude. That means it is moving west 3.17 times more than going north... which means it is moving less than WNW. If it was a true WNW it would be moving at 2.0. This just worries me as it feels like this has continued longer than I would have expected.

Naples/Fort Myers area.
You should be on the ~moderate side. One meteorologist pointed out something I didnt realize but the width of the Florida peninsula is only 100 miles.
Hurricane force winds stretch out ~45 miles from center.
Biggest concern for you would be the tornado threat, followed by strong gusts. Depending on how she comes in will dictate the place the gulf is pushed into.

Where did you go to ?
My uncle and cousin are trying to leave the Ft. Nyers area, but she can't get off work from the VA yet.

I have 2 little kids, no way we are staying. Mathew was a Cat 1 and made a mess of things, but I'll definitely take that over a stronger storm
