All BS aside... how will people on that tiny island it's about to hit survive?
Posted on 9/5/17 at 10:15 pm to DoUrden
I can't man. My mom refuses to leave so I have to stay close to her for the inevitable. If it hits bad like I know is a possibility, then no way her crappy little house will make it. So I have to stay for her.

Looking at this thing is almost hypnotizing.

I definitely get that mentality. Just worth noting that it's not really based on anything

I think it was Rita coming in ... there were huge flocks after flocks of birds heading inland. I watched for at least 3 hours ... it was amazing.
SEriously, I saw a seagull in central Alabama after Katrina (or maybe that was Ivan, the year before). We are 200 miles from the shoreline.

Concrete structures that are above the storm surge levels.

Barbuda... good question, but I am sure the vast majority of them will make it. Move to high ground and seek shelter is really the only option if you're stuck there now.

Gross, I would rather drown than leave Scottsdale

Remember the last time these things were in the gulf in 2005?

Depending on how close this thing is to Puerto Rico, we should get a pretty good look at it on radar tomorrow.

It's because of Harvey. No one really even gave a shite about Matthew and that was also a Cat 5.
A lot of truth to that, but Matthew was also expected to weaken between Cuba and Puerto Rico, and even 3 days Florida was barely in the cone.
Irma is another animal altogether.

I think you need to put some Ambien in her favorite drink, get her in the car, and drive far away

I remember before Katrina.
My mom worked at the hospital couldn't get off and told us to leave.
We were going to stay.
At the time my dad and I started getting everything packed away under the deck and inside the house. Boarded up the windows.
We have a huge pecan tree in our backyard that was full of birds all the time.
There was this eerie wind and silence because all the birds had left, while we were packing away the outside stuff in the yard.
My mom came back home for lunch and told us to go because she didn't wants to stay at the hospital because if shite got real bad it would be a traumatic place to be in.
We left a few hours before contraflow closed. We didn't get to Baton Rouge toll the evening and then Katrina hit that morning.

We went to St. Lucia for a week 2 years ago and on the ride from the airport to the resort I asked our driver how they survive hurricanes because all the local housing was tin roofing nailed onto 2x8 boards bolted to cinderblocks and the houses only had 3 closed in walls and 1 wall open for air to circulate.
The driver said luckily St. Lucia is so far south they are usually spared the big storms but that when they do get hit, many people die or go missing from mudslides and building collapse.
From what I saw on vacations in the USVI and San Juan, it's much more Americanized construction but they mainly just go into shelters and wait it out. Grand Turk tour guide said they get their families on company charter boats and go to other islands to ride it out. It's crazy to think about

Is the rumor that airlines are jacking Miami prices up true?
