should we start another "oh shite" thread for the storm behind Irma?

And wouldn't that storm be likely to follow in Irma's path with Irma ahead of it carving out an atmospheric "path" per se? This of course in addition to whatever pressure systems steer Irma to begin with.

Hopefully Irma pulls some downfield blocking for that thing allllll the way out to the mid-atlantic.

Jesus Christ man. Exploding after it hits the Gulf. Let's hope the models are wrong this time.

It's way too early to throw around those names, but the trend is not our friend.

It bears watching for sure, but a lot can happen between now and then.

Good news is, no model is gonna nail it 10 days out. I mean, what are the odds that this models 10 day prediction is right on?

Almost seems like you want the long range forecast to bring it to you because it's likely gonna end up anywhere but there

We might be back in 2005 again.

I say that because not only is Irma there, another system is behind it. Much like what occurred in 2005.

hits that Loop Current, and becomes a cat 7.

Is a cat 7 even a thing? Very frightening to think about.

the 2 main models are completely different so they're both worth discussing

the GFS currently has it hitting Maine & Nova Scotia... but makes it a bit stronger (898 mb, definite major Cat 5, at its peak)

obviously all of us want the GFS to be right... but both models are worth discussing

Me being introduced to tropical tidbits and these models could be the worst thing to ever happen. Now I get to stress about it

No, the Saffir-Simpson Scale only goes to Category 5.

right now everyone from coastal Canada to Mexico needs to just have an eye out on what Irma's going to do

note: I didn't say panic or worry or anything like that... just watch it and see what it does
