Its making a run for sure. No eyewall replacement signs. Looks nice and symmetrical. All systems go for a run at a five. In November, because of course.

Recon getting close now. I think this is our Cat 5 of 2020. Stellar presentation. Ton of lighting still, and upshear where it's been found that lightning indicates strengthening.

Extrap 918 mb.

Have at least one SRMF reading of 140 kt (that's 160 mph). Eye temp is starting to crank higher. If it's not yet, should be the latest Cat 5 on record before this plane leaves.

A. 16/12:21:00Z
B. 13.47 deg N 081.59 deg W
C. 700 mb 2427 m
D. 921 mb
E. 345 deg 1 kt
F. CLOSED
G. C12
H. 140 kt

P. 10 C / 3060 m
Q. 25 C / 3046 m

15 degree temp difference from inside and outside the eye. Pretty impressive #s here. I think the upgrade is coming.

This thing is bombing out and will hit within a few miles of where Eta hit.

I’m afraid there will be a lot of deaths with this one.

The impacts of the 2019 LSU Football National Championship continue to be felt worldwide. No one will ever laugh about the power of voodoo again.

ETA quickly weakened upon approach so let’s hope Iota does the same. I know there was still a lot of damage and destruction from Eta but it wasn’t as bad as it could have been. Let’s hope their relative ‘luck’ continues.

#Iota is the strongest storm of the 2020 Atlantic #HurricaneSeason, and is an extremely rare Category 5 hurricane during November. The only other known Atlantic Category 5 hurricane to occur during November was in 1932 (Nov 5-8), so this is now the latest Cat5 on record.

You'd be hard pressed to come up with a more catastrophic scenario for that area. A slow moving hurricane that caused massive flooding, followed by a Cat. 5 monster making landfall damn near within seeing distance of the first one? I feel for everyone down there.

In mid-November......

The strengthening in the last 36 hours is matched by some of the worst ever.

Andrew in 1992. Camille in 1969. Labor Day in 1935.

Especially the crew from Samaritan's Purse. They just sent their portable field hospital down there.

The ONLY saving grace may be that it might be about to wrap some dry air in as evident on visible and WV imagery.

May not do much but maybe it will help a little before landfall.

At least that's my hope.
