In simplest terms, the storm structure is different with a subtropical storm having most intense storms displaced away from the center and they usually have a "lopsided" look to them.

I'm not shitting on the NHC here, I know this stuff is hard and there were a lot of variables

But this is the biggest miss/messiest forecast of the season by far, right?

Nah.

NHC has issued 45 full 5 day cones with Eta, and it will have stayed inside of all but 43 of them, by my count. Considering the fact the storm is expected to stay inside of the cone ~65% of the time, you can argue they did better than normal.

However, the fact that the two misses were closer to the US is all most people care about, so from that perspective, I can understand the frustration. That being said, Hurricane Sally was a similar miss and a much stronger storm, so I'd argue it was a more impactful miss.

I knew it! I knew Eta would make for a good cone debate.

Headed right for Gainesville, great. We have a ton of trees and a shitty infrastructure so a direct hit from a tropical storm will do some damage.

Thought I’d check in on this and can’t believe the latest shift.

I'll defer to you

But unless I missed something, 36 hours ago this thing was going to be hovering off the coast of Apalachicola from like Thursday-Sunday, and today I woke up to find it was going to be halfway to Ireland by Saturday

So NHC is seriously saying this thing has 70 mph sustained winds?
