Thx Rome. I'm in Morehead City NC so appreciate your efforts and those of others here. Between a few threads you guys are hitting directly on the scenario. Even better than the local news. Please keep it coming

I have a cousin who’s grandmother has to stay in Newport, NC. She’s 90 and very weak and claim they can’t go anywhere. I looked up their home and it looks like a shack and Newport doesn’t look too far inland.
Are there any options I can relay to them?
Cousins aren’t the richest people in the world, so driving to NC and getting them isn’t an option.

One thing I want to add to this is it’s a good idea to write your contact info with a sharpie on your pets collar in case tags get detached

Call the police for a wellness check and get her to a shelter inland or something?
Hell, have her fake a heart attack to get her to a hospital inland.

Carteret General Hospital operates a shelter for persons who are medically fragile at the Leon Mann Enrichment Center.
This facility is located at:
3820 Galantis St.
Morehead City, 28557
252.499.6000
Persons wishing to use the medically fragile shelter must pre-register with Carteret County Emergency Services by (filling out the above form).
I'll keep searching. Good luck to them.
ETA: I changed the form URL for a second but it was right the first time. Please see updated link.

Rome do you know of a reliable traffic map online? I'm leaving as a precaution after I cut out of work and not really sure what route to take or where to go. I think I'm going to try to make it west/north west into Kentucky but I'm not that familiar with the routes around here.

Are you in NC?
NCDOT - Travel Conditions
NCDOT - Evacuation Routes and List of Traffic Resources
Google Maps and Waze are also good for real-time traffic conditions.

These are the most goofy projections I have ever seen, in my lifetime anyway. These meteorologists have their work cut out for them with everything involved.

Would you ride it out in Charleston?

quote:Isn't Charleston under mandatory evacuation? Up to you, but I would get out. Tornadoes, storm surge, not guaranteed emergency services, multi-week power outages, etc. are all good reasons to leave. I can't think of any good reasons to stay that outweigh the reasons to leave.

I'm not sure if this has been posted or not but for anyone in a mandatory evac area, most homeowner's insurances cover up to 2 weeks of cost. SAVE ALL RECEIPTS

[Charleston] still is [under mandatory evacuation ]and the city is shutting all operations down after today. They will only provide property protection and crime prevention after today. They want people off the peninsula for sure even though the entire county is mandatory as well.
