Thanks so much for your help and explanations I’ve added WPC and SPC Mesoscale Discussion links and the graphic you highlighted above. I’ll post the graphics as they become available.

PsychTiger thanks for the heads up. I’m in Johns Island and planning on riding it out. Sending the wife and kids to Helen for a few days and I’m staying with the dogs. You live in James Island?

I'm also on Johns, but thinking more each hour about leaving. If the 5:00 and 8:00 updates show a continuing southern trend, I'm likely a gone pecan in the morning.

As for the gas cans I mentioned yesterday, I'm sure those are long gone by now, though they could be getting more in.

Both of you should leave based on your location, IMO.

We're not in downtown Charleston, which floods easily. Johns Island has a lot more elevation, 40 something feet over sea level, and our local geography expert, The Gas Man, said we are relatively okay from a river rising standpoint. I was fine with potential impacts as long as I stayed on the extreme southern edge of the storm, but with it possibly stalling and moving down the coast I am planning on packing up tonight and at least being ready to leave come morning. We aren't forecasted to have tropical force winds until Thursday afternoon.

eta: But hurricane party tonight. Any other Johns Island baws should come to Krazy Owls during happy hour and tie one on.

Can anyone add to what I’ve just listed?

I know it sounds obvious, but cash. Cash works when electric is down and computers are fubar.

There's also bad guys that are going to come out. Firearms are better to have and not need...

Ice chest full of drinks/ sammich stuff in case you need when none is available.

ETA: extra gas cans.

#HurricaneFlorence ?????

This is how I've seen the Hurricane Florence drama play out on facebook.

Florence: I'm coming for you.
VA & SC: Please don't
NC: Bring it

Florence: The frick did you say to me?
VA & SC: NC, dude shut the frick up!
NC: frick that and frick her windy arse. Punk arse bitch is only a CAT 3.

Florence: *powers up to CAT 4* still wanna talk shite!?
VA & SC: ... nope, we're good
NC: Not only am I going to CONTINUE to talk shite, we got Jim Cantore on his way and we are meme'ing the frick out of you.

Florence: you have got to be kidding. Ok fine, I got something for you. *begins powering up to CAT 5*
VA & SC: ......
NC: that's cool, we already have facebook events planned such as welcoming parties, blowing all the fans at you, firing guns at you... we've cleared out ABC stores and are ready to get LIT. Bring it on turbo.

Florence: you... you guys are serious? You really aren't scared of me? But... but I.... I put so much effort into this.
VA & SC: *waiting anxiously*
NC: *chugs beer* get fricked

Florence: fine, I'll leave *shifts south*
VA: *sigh of relief*
SC: God damn it NC you are the worst big brother ever!
NC: time to man up bitch, that damn hurricane is mad.

You’ll need propane or charcoal for the grill... to start cooking all your meat from the freezer when power goes out. We ate like kings for a week after Gustav with no power

Fill any plastic jugs you can with water and freeze them while you have power. You want your freezer to be a near solid mass of ice to keep the temp freezing. Masses of ice work.

Too late now to suggest a Carbon Monoxide detector (battery operated preferred) for the wall nearest the outside location of your generator. NEVER put the generator inside; people died in New Orleans trying to stop their generators from being stolen.

Sheets of heavy plastic to deflect water to the sides of your house if you get roof damage.

Also, the windy website has locations of many on shore cams which might help some people with decision making.
