Talks about Camp Lejeune Shelters for Marines & Sailors.

FB Link Camp Lejeune / MCAS New River Info

quote:

The installation emergency operations centers have established Tropical Cyclone Condition III in preparation for any potential impacts from Hurricane Florence.

quote:

TCC III is established when a destructive weather system with sustained winds of 50 knots (58 mph) or greater is forecast to affect the area within 48 hours.

quote:

It is expected that this destructive weather system will impact Camp Lejeune and Marine Corps Air Station New River with periods of strong winds, heavy rains, flooding of urban and low lying areas, potential flash floods and coastal storm surges are expected.

quote:

During the course of this destructive weather event, the installation emergency operations centers will initiate actions across the base and air station in preparation for any potential impacts from the storm. Preparations that have already occurred include pre-staging of equipment, personnel and supplies to assist throughout the stages of the expected storm. Essential personnel have been recalled and are preparing shelters and manning key operations centers on the installations. The Camp Lejeune and MCAS New River shelters have not opened at this time, but residents should follow our Facebook pages and Twitter feeds for the latest information.

Best of luck to you

ETA Just seeing you're under mandatory evac. Why stay when you know emergency services can't get to you? Why take that chance? No material goods are worth the risk.

Thanks Rome. Appreciate all the links. Got a lot of trees in my back yard. Hoping none drop on my house.Expecting wind gusts of 80 to 90mph.

Thanks as well Rome. Your collected info is better than any news source. We’re just outside of Raleigh and Matthew took out the maple trees that could hit our house two years ago; so it’s just power / water / flooding concern for us.

If anyone is getting out of the coast and finds yourself in Johnston county (just southeast of Raleigh) here are the shelter details.

——

Shelter Locations for Hurricane Florence

Hurricane Florence
September 10, 2018
4:30pm

Smithfield, NC – The Johnston County Emergency Operations Center has designated three shelters to be opened on Wednesday, September 12 at 8:00pm. The shelters are:

North Johnston Middle School
435 Oil Company Road
Micro, NC 27555

Benson Middle School
1600 North Wall Street
Benson, NC 27504

West Johnston High School (Pet-Friendly)
3935 Raleigh Road
Benson, NC 27504

Residents who anticipate evacuating to a shelter should gather their personal items to include bedding, medication, comfort and personal hygiene items; infant supplies such as formula, bottles, disposable diapers and pacifiers; and important personal documents. Items that will not be allowed at the shelters include pets, alcoholic beverages and weapons of any type.

West Johnston High School has been designated as a pet friendly shelter. Those seeking shelter at this location will be able to bring their pets; however, the pets will be not be allowed to roam freely throughout the school. There will be a designated location where the pets will be housed.

We encourage residents to take all precautionary measures possible should Hurricane Florence impact Central North Carolina. Please continue to monitor radio, television and social media for further updates.

I think a good rule of thumb is: if you are under mandatory evacuation, get out. Period.
