The slow speed and thus large duration of impacts is not standard. Maybe not megastorm, but certainly not standard.

Standard, but stalled so the downpour is insane.

I mean, even a standard hurricane sucks arse but they way they were hyping it up you’d think it was gonna blow the whole eastern seaboard off

May have gone down to a cat1, but the rain threat never diminished, especially for New Bern.

If I am off the coast, I’d prefer a cat 3 that rolls thru vs a Slow rainmaker

The only updates I have had are from the Lejeune Facebook page. Everyone I know that is still stationed there evacuated. I do know they lost power last night and the Marines in the barracks are up to the normal jackassery (i.e. drinking and have a blast)

Live look at Camp Lejeune:

Well, they had a category 4 hurricane barreling towards the east coast. I think the reaction was natural.

You aren’t the first to whine about that.

What would you rather them do? Downplay it and get people killed? Even with all the hype, we still have families trapped and emergency officials telling them to make vents in their roofs because it will be some time before they can be rescued. No telling how many more if they don’t let people know how serious it is.

Current pic of some part of New Bern:
I just found that location on Google Maps...the corner of Broad and East Front Streets, pretty much right at the confluence of the Neuse and Trent rivers.

The red brick building is a group of 4 townhouses. Water probably not deep enough to get inside yet, but it looks like the garage door is fubar

It's nice that every five pages or so since yesterday we have to have that one guy who keeps showing up to post crap like this.

Yes, it was hyped up. It was a cat 4 two days ago. Yes it has weakened, but it sure as hell seems like it was a good idea to hype this and get the message out as a lot of people are finding out in that area.

Did they run all day? I mean, was the running done?

"Just a regular hurricane folks. It's a category 4 now, with 130 mph sustained winds, but it will weaken. Don't sweat it.

Expect some light rain in the northwest this weekend..."

I’m sure the families flooded in their attics making holes to breathe are pissed at how overhyped the storm was.

Yep. Even with the weakening, it's still fricking peoples' lives up.

If accurate, that would obliterate an over 100 year record for most rainfall in a 24 hour period on North Carolina (22.22 inches, 1916)

It's a USGS station, but it's subject to revision nonetheless.

The 24 hour total will be north of 30" since most of the rain has fallen in the last 18 hours and continues to come down.

Yep. Some seem to think that would have been the correct message.

Before this is over a lot of people are going to see water in places they never thought possible. 40" of rain over a large swath of pretty decently populated area will frick up some lives.

This storm is 2018's Hurricane Harvey.

But I guess the population isn't as large as Houston, so I guess it is no big deal to some of y'all.
