SIAP.

The Pointe Coupee Banner noted that the single juror that refused any kind of penalty for the shooting was a black male, and expressed reluctance to put another black male in prison. The other 4 black jurors voted to convict along with the entire rest of the jury.

People get frustrated with all of the violence happening in society today, but this is the kind of racial and political crap that we are having to deal with and work around.

‘Hung Jury’ declared in case of man accused in deadly shooting outside Erwinville bar

WEST BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The trial of a man in West Baton Rouge Parish in connection with a deadly shooting outside a bar ended in a “hung jury” on Thursday, Aug. 18.

After deliberating for almost 9 hours, jurors could not unanimously agree on a verdict in the second-degree murder trial of Ronald Campbell, who stood accused of killing Trey Allen, 21, of Livonia, during a fight outside a bar in Erwinville last year.

The jury returned to the courtroom twice during the afternoon, to ask for the different definitions of manslaughter and second degree murder.

A ‘hung jury’ is a jury whose members cannot agree about what the verdict should be.

Investigators said Trey Allen was shot and killed in the parking lot of Raxx Bar and Grill in Erwinville on Saturday, Sept. 18.

Officials added Allen was trying to stop the fight when he was shot.

quote:

Campbell was 17 at the time of the shooting, but 18th Judicial District Attorney Tony Clayton, chose to try Campbell as an adult in this case.

“I just thank those 11 jurors who stayed there and tried to get that one juror, to talk to him, and to reason with him. You know I tip my hat off to those 11 jurors. But you know Louisiana gave us that unanimous jury stuff to deal with and this is what we have to deal with. So we’re faced with it and I’m going to deal with it,” said 18th Judicial District Attorney Tony Clayton.

As a result of the deadly shooting, the West Baton Rouge Parish Council appointed a hearing officer, who decided to revoke the liquor license of Raxx Bar and Grill. The place is permanently closed for now.

The victim, Trey Allen:

I thought that only 11 of 12 were required for conviction unless it was a death penalty case in Louisiana. That must have changed recently or am I mistaken?

In any case, the DA's team in Port Allen are frustrated with the outcome and are going at it again in November.

Raxx Bar lost its liquor license and has since been shut down. So far the owners and employees at Raxx Bar and Grill have faced a bigger penalty for all of this than the little shite that actually murdered someone.

quote:

“He shouldn’t get too comfortable. In less than 45 days he’ll be back at it again. We’ll try him again. 11 to 1 that we’ll convict him,” said Clayton.

SOME blacks will literally allow murders to walk free because they have the same skin color.

Identity politics is a cancer.

For homicides……….The per-capita offending rate for African-Americans was roughly eight times higher than that of whites, and their victim rate was similar.

And if you try to toss black jurors likely to do this from the pool, they will complain about racism in the jury selection process.

Honestly, anyone who lies to be on a jury then outwardly admits this shite to the other 11 jurors should be beaten to death.

This is why a fully unanimous verdict among a diverse jury might be too big of a lift. There are frequently activists that will lie to get on a jury, then will refuse to convict for political reasons or because of their own racism or prejudice.

They will. Tony Clayton seems to be looking forward to it.

Usually the question is framed like “did person 1 kill person 2”? How could one person say no. Maybe it wasn’t asked like that. Seems crazy to me!

According to the article, 4 out of 5 black people on the jury voted him guilty of murder.

I'm impressed with Clayton.

The country would be better off if more people like him were in chief prosecutor positions in cities like New Orleans.

It was just one idiot who held out. The other black jurors said guilty.

Not only do tax payers shell out money to feed, house and care for these murderers but now with the unanimous verdict required tax payers get to eat more court cost and more court time which will include a back log of cases which will result in lower please deals and criminals walking

What’s a good place to put it? Simple majority seems too small of a burden for the state criminal cases, especially capital punishment.

If it’s 9, 10, or 11 out of 12, you’re probably still going to end up with the occasional frustrating case such as this. For all we know, the one hold out in this case allowed the others to feel good about voting guilty because they knew it wouldn’t matter.

Knowing that you need 2 or 3 votes to get a hung jury might just embolden more hold outs during deliberation.

Blacks are still very tribal.

Some will not convict a member of their tribe if they did a crime against someone not in the tribe.

Well if the “culture” would stop being so toxic maybe you wouldn’t have to worry about this?
