How young is too young to use a pinch collar on a dog?

Going to pick up an 8 week old pup on Saturday. I obviously don’t want to use it on her to train her when she’s too young or her neck is too small.

I’ve also heard that if properly used and fitted correctly, the pinch collars are better and don’t administer pain, just a slight discomfort enough to get their attention.

If you're over fifty you probably shouldn't own a dog that needs a pinch or choke collar,

Or if you're beta enough to not be able to control a puppy without a punch or choke collar.

Come on bruh.

They’re used by dog trainers all over the place.

I don’t see why it’s such a big deal.

They're not used by reputable dog trainers. Very little use for a choke collar.

Try training without a choke collar. Training should not be a painful or any sort of threat or aggression, reward based training is faster and just plain works. It works out a lot better for both you and your pup.

I've been keeping and training bird dogs (both for field work and home) for the last 30+ years.

Dick Russell/Larry Benoit aren't reputable?

They use pinch collars in their reward-based training. And a pinch collar that is properly fitted doesn’t hurt the dog, it simulates the mom picking up the dog by the back of the neck.

Everything I’ve read and heard about them is that they’re not painful.

Use a pinch collar. They just aggravate the dog

Choke collars literally choke them

You getting a pit? Don't worry about administering pain. That's what she'll do in a few months to an unsuspecting toddler or elderly lady.

Try a Martingale collar before using a pinch / choke collar
Especially on a puppy

This is my reasoning as well. I figured that the pinch collar would actually be better since it doesn’t cut off the airflow and hits the pressure point for a second just to get their attention.

A little healthy fear/respect is good for a dog to show their owner.

Dick was one of the better trainers in the area. Larry obviously has taken over now, before Dick stopped we loved to take our dogs to the weekly walks at his house. 100 people walking in a huge circle and the dogs having the time of their lives.

"Choke collars" are training collar put on incorrectly. Putting them on correctly should be the first order of business before using one.
