Putting a deposit down is extortion now? The very fact they do it to every one is how they avoid discrimination charges from the few people this would actually apply to.

Yeah, I don’t like the idea. I’ve had Dr. offices ask me to pay before I see the Dr and didn’t like that either. If I’m not satisfied with the meal or service I want the opportunity to have the meal comp’ed with a hold being on my card for up to two weeks like Walmart does.

They already do a pre authorization before you leave the tip and it doesn't tie up your money at all. If they did it to lower prices by preventing walk outs, sure. They will probably do it to increase profit, so whatever.

then if you dont leave what they consider a good tip im sure they will just go ahead and charge you what they think is a fair tip since they already have your card info and/or money

When I travel for work I usually sit at a bar to have a couple of drinks, order food and watch some sports. Most of the time they grab my CC when I first order my drink. I think nothing of it.

Twin peaks does this. If sitting at the bar they ask for a card upfront which i'm assuming starts a tab.

Oh I pretty much assumed this scenario was talking about cheaper places like Applebee’s.
But I’m in full support of what I proposed with the ability to pay your tab on your phone.

This, I've thought about giving the server me cc as I was seated a few times. I hate it when they take forever to bring me the bill. Order, tell them to charge me and bring the receipt before the meal.
