Or...Al Qaeda quietly keeps working on WMD'S and in 2009 a crude but effective nuclear device kills upwards of 20K in an an American city.

Interesting take. As someone working in that arena in the late 1990’s I can tell you that we were aware of terrorism and working on it but not the way that it is approached now. There wasn’t the urgency to kill those frickers that we have now. It is entirely feasible they could have quietly built a dirty bomb instead of flying planes into buildings and we would have never known until they used it.

Our capabilities then were 20% of what we have now.

Since 911 you need proper credentials to enter military bases. Had 911 not happened civilians might still be allowed on military bases without showing credentials.

We may not be as politically polarized as we are. 9/11 changed us. Sometimes, I think for the worst. So many people out there now want to sacrifice personal liberty in the name of security. We will have neither.

We wouldn't have had the Iraq war and Bush wouldn't have gone down as one of the worst president's in history.

Even if 911 didn't happen or was prevented, another terrorist attack would have taken its place at some point.

Dang good question. Unfortunately my brain doesn't process what if situations like this well, but I believe what the posters that reply the outcome would have been more horrible are probably correct. A dirty bomb or something. It was a better world when the Muslims had to hire the Japs to do their suicide work.

Wrong. Without 9/11 we would have not invaded. 9/11 opened the door. The administration took advantage of the political climate of the day. Without 9/11, the invasion never happens.

Not sure if serious. Bush is relatively blameless for the Katrina response.

Nagin and Blanco take the overwhelming amount of blame.

American dependence on middle east oil is one of the biggest lies in the world.

Yeah, I mean I agree with you. But, Bush still illogically receives much of the blame from a ton of people in this country.

They’d have just found another very critical reason to do so.

Big government is gonna big government no matter what, because the people are who chooses it for themselves every time they go to the poles and speak their mind.

I'd still be using air travel pretty frequently. I seldom fly anywhere now.

My gosh air travel is painless, especially if you have Precheck and/or clear. This bullshite about flying is so much more of a hassle now is played out.

About the same, just without the reputational tarnish of losing the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

It goes all the way back to WII, with some roots before that even. Creating Israel and the Balfour declaration made it inevitable. If the US hadn't spent the last 70 plus years "nation building" (read meddling) in many countries around the world, then we might have a chance of not being here.
