Pretend to be interested and waste as much of their time as you can. It's fun, you get some revenge, and if everyone starts doing it it'll put the scammers out of business.

Especially if they don't have your name. Then you can use pun names like Ben Dover. I also like to fake a foreign accent so I can slow down the conversation and make them repeat things.

I waste as much time as I can. Ask about covering really crazy things. When I think they have had enough I ask if it matters that I sold the car last year

Thank for the great advice! I should have thought of that earlier! How could I be so blind?

Exactly. It's the recordings I don't know how to handle. If you put a live stranger on the other end of the phone with me there is a 100% chance things are going to get weird very fast. I look forward to these calls now hoping it's a real person.

I always text them back when they call with one of those presets i.e. "I'm busy now" or "Can I call you later?". If i get a response that it's not a real number (more than usual) I block it. The calls have receded due to this.

Register your phone number on the do not call registry.

Don't answer unknown numbers.

I keep adding them to my blocked list. I'm down to about 1 a week now instead of 1 a day.

Start talking about abortion. Nobody wants to have that conversation.

I like to keep a depleted Visa gift card in my wallet. If they ask for it I give it to them. Typically there's about 2 bucks on it and I always hope they test it by running it for $1. Then they sell the number and some crook gets screwed.

I used to have a lot of fun with the condo/free cruise scammers and Rachel from Card Services. I've only gotten one scam call in the past several months though. Maybe the scammers blacklisted my number.

When they call, I either don't answer or answer and give the phone to my 3 year old son.

I work in a business that clients give out my cell to potential new clients - so unless it's a contact calling me - I will sometimes answer it or let it for to v/m
