5 billion for a sidewalk?

The city has had to by a shite ton of property to make it circle the city. That adds up quick.

I'm still trying to wrap my mind about a $4.8 BILLION project.

22 miles = 116,160 feet (5280*22)
$4,800,000,000 / 116,160 = $41,322.31

So, it cost over $41K per FOOT? Did they at least give the City taxpayers a reach around?

I guess you don't know how circles work.

I love the rails to trails initiatives.

Huge supporter of rails to trails. They're up to around 24,000 miles of trail now I believe.

Good friend of mine lives right off the belt line and it’s a wonderful development for the city of New Orleans. If you map the population of Atlanta an incredible amount of people live within a 10 minute walk of this linear park.

I think street cars in the belt line are a massive, costly mistake though. Keep it as a pedestrian/biking thorough fare.

The 96 Summer Olympics is what put Atlanta on the World Stage Map and that is a FACT.

You sure it wasn't Delta, long before 1996?

Olympics don't go to some podunk town. Atlanta was already pretty important by 1996 and that is a FACT.

my town got some land and built out about 15+ miles of trails where our development will be in about 10 years. looking at it now, you're thinking, why did y'all build several miles of trail out in corn fields, but as that develops they'll have some clear boundaries. there are way worse things i don't want to spend tax money on.

Looks like a place where cyclists ride, hoping they can yell at walkers that it’s legal for them to be there while also yelling at people on e-bikes who legally use the pathway.

Beltline is pretty awesome.

A little sketch in a few spots, but one of the best multi-use trails in the country. Will be nice when they come Porte the entire path.

People need to understand politics. The only reason Atlanta is Atlanta and Houston is Houston, etc… is because they all have had Presidents in the White House. If anyone from Louisiana ever made it to the White House then New Orleans would have a boom for 30 years plus. That’s how it works. Long term funding and business is set up by the powers at be. Before LBJ and Bush and Carter those cities were lesser than New Orleans. This is fact.

Bruh, you are wildly ignorant of history. New Orleans was leaps and bounds ahead of both cities. Corruption drove it into the ground and the rest of the state with it.

Had a place on the beltline for a few years .... gets crazy busy on weekends with the scooters, bikes whizzing past dangerously. But overall, a remarkable plan and urban development that once connected will be a unique footprint on a major city.

And the talent levels are top notch.
People who shite on Atlanta probably haven't spent much time there. Especially the NOLAier than thou crowd. I've lived in both cities and ATL offers much, much more and frankly - cleaner and better living.

This

Dated a girl in Atlanta for quite some time

Atlanta is an amazing city

The beltline is fantastic

Something New Orleans could never do

How does that compare to other developed commercial land in Atlanta?

Without that your calculations are useless.

I do think that helped but the Olympics is what cleaned up the city - they tore down all of the projects and built new modern buildings. The Olympics also helped with upgrading the city's the infrastructure which at the time was a huge upgrade but here we are in 2022 it is is clear that the city has outgrown that part of the infrastructure

I've spent more time in Atlanta than virtually any other city outside of Louisiana besides maybe London.

I f&%king HATE Atlanta. It's not the worst of the Great Sprawl Cities, but I really have nothing but negative memories of the place. Every time I go there, it's always a bad time.
