How soon will Indy, F1, or Winston Cup have driverless cars? Will they be limited?

This will be a game changer. Will Waymo be represented? Might humanoids replace the pit crew?

There will certainly be no need for jacks!!

Yet history shows that companies with the best tech do not automatically win; those that can deploy nearly-as-good technology at speed, scale and competitive cost most often prevail. One of the challenges in deploying AI in the physical world has been its “jagged intelligence”, as the technologist Andrej Karpathy calls it. AIs can excel at some reasoning tasks and fail at others. But just as important for autonomous cars will be dealing with “jagged adoption”.

Will Waymo Have a TEAM?

There are already driverless racing leagues.

Kvyat lost to an AI car last year, but there is a lot to that story.

What would be the difference between watching car racing and watching people play MarioKart at that point?

No, they would not allow it ever. AI for driverless cars requires machine learning which means trial and error and vectoring different possibilities. Over the course of a weekend, the rules and instructions change too much for modern AIs to prepare.

Also, the cars already have a ton of automation in them. I’ve been getting on to people. The cars already get confused with their automation.

The toughest challenge is giving or programming the car with "The Will to Win" and protecting it from "The Agony of Defeat".

They may replace all of the on-road cars but, there will still be drivers in (probably electric) race cars.

People have good days, bad days, some are better than others, the better ones can have an off day, etc. If all the cars had the same abilities they would race and stay in the same positions... I assume. There might already be something like this, but some type of racing where it comes down to building the best car and there be some type of skill involved that allows for some people to be better than others and people to be able to get better, etc.

The one thing I can guarantee out of the OP's question is Winston Cup will never have driverless cars.

But with AI being different for each car, each race team offers their "brand" to show their skill set on the track. How much more sophisticated might these cars be?

They had a race between an F1 car and an AI powered F1 car recently in the UAE and if I recall correctly the AI car won.

Edited to add: And to answer OP's question: it will happen Neveruary 33rd of next year.

I watch a lot of motor racing and have for a long, long time. Ain't no way the people would ever stand for that. There will never be autonomous cars in any of the top racing series around the world in our lifetimes.

And plus from an insurance and frankly driver safety standpoint, that shite is just ludicrous to think about.

Yea, just like the NFL went away with massive E-Gamers playing Madden and Techmo Bowl since 1990…

I presume we're moving to the point where driverless cars are run by human remote control

basically glorified video games, and there is an audience that watched that

Have you watched F1 this season? It basically is Mario Kart.

I think it would be more like that scene from Guardians of the Galaxy 2, where all of the drivers would be remote like the golden Sovereign pilots.

From an insurance standpoint there would be less cost. No drivers means driver safety is not an issue. If they eventually go all electric, it would be quieter than the Master's and the crowd could talk about the more important things in life.

What it can give you is a race in any kind of weather, proving which tires, wipers, and headlights are superior to all others.

I can see the aftermarket potential for such accessories exploding.
