A common argument among drug prohibition proponents is the fact mass legalization would increase traffic accidents and DWIs.. Would driver-less vehicles pave the way for an end of the WOD?

Can't happen soon enough. Just one less stress trigger in my life.

NAW, there always has to be a boogieman, real or perceived...

I want the entire truck shipping industry to be driverless.

Baton Rouge drivers can't handle the interstate when it drizzles.
They would go full retard with driver-less cars on the road

As long as they don't make sports cars driverless I'm fine with it.

Given how many drivers are actually zoned-out zombies, we already have them.

Had a thought yesterday as I was trying to merge on the bridge from the Nicholson on ramp. There was a solid line of traffic. Nobody would let me in and I almost had to get off at the Port Allen exit. I wonder how a driverless car would have handled that scenario?

With the people I have seen driving around lately. Teenagers and old 95 year- old codgers. I'm good with it.

Just had a long conversation about this at work the other day. I'm pumped for it and can't wait.
Housing prices are going through the roof in the area where my work is. Once driverless cars become more prevalent, I can go buy a place out in the country 45 minutes away and not have to worry about the commute at all. I can sleep or work on my laptop on the way to and from work each day.
Within 10 years, I fully expect to be able to pull out my phone and order a car to come pick me up and take me to work. I'd assume even have scheduled M-F pickups for commuting.
Traffic will be greatly improved as well and my chances of dying on the road when surrounded by a bunch of autonomous vehicles will be significantly decreased.
I think one of the other major underrated things for autonomous vehicles is the ability to have semi trucks driving around at night instead of during the day. Maybe require that the majority of truck transport to take place between the hours of 7pm and 5am or something. Not having trucks on the freeways during commuting hours would be a huge improvement for traffic.

Take the tinfoil hat off, Y2K didn't happen by the way

Can't wait for driverless cars to become popular, just now picturing going down 400 and some dude in the car next to me doing a line of coke off his dashboard

Another thing most people don't think about is parking. It'll never be an issue anymore because your car can just drop you off at the door and go find a spot a mile away if it needs to. Then you just hit a button on your phone when you're ready to leave and it'll come back and pick you up

I don't want to be at the mercy of some grid.
You're already at the mercy of your brakes working, your cruise control turning off, etc. You're just used to that. People will get used to this too.
With 100% driverless cars, there will almost never be an accident between two cars. Realistically let's say we get to having 75% driverless cars in the next 15 years; we'd see accidents decrease substantially.

There is literally nothing tinfoil hat about my post, cuck.

You rather have a bunch of people die due to human error simply because of "the grid"

All of which are controlled by me. I'm not really as worried about the ramifications from a safety perspective in the long term, although in the short term I'm sure it would be uncomfortable.
I've read a little bit into this, and I hate the idea of cars having the ability to communicate with each other and having to communicate with a larger grid that will dictate the manner in which we get from point A to point B. I am wary of the notion of relinquishing control of our ability in transportation to this system.
There are implications at play that bother me... trying to look at the downside instead of saying "frick yeah lol I can look at pr0n on the way to work now".

Probably a lot safer than most of the drivers on the road. Each year more than 30k Americans are killed on the roads. I think this will reduce that number.
