18. Lived there 2 years and rented it out for 10. Sold it and brought a bigger one.

I bought it for 225 after Katrina Remodeled and lived there for 7 years sold it for 585
I did put 100k in material into it and did 75% of the labor

27 years old in ‘97...had been married for 6 years and had a 4 year old and a newborn at the time. Things were a little different back then.

Wife and I both worked all through college and grad school. Saved our money. We finished with 30 days of each other , got married and bought a house. 25 and 24. Southdowns in the late 90’s when the market was el fuego. Parents didn’t give us a dime. All our money and credit. You can do anything in this country if you work hard and manage your money.

25 - wasn’t a great investment - put $40k cash into it over the 5 years I owned and walked away with a $10k check when I sold it. Would have kept it as a rental but the garage flooded anytime it rained and I didn’t want to deal with that as a landlord.

That mortgage was less than my property tax escrow now. I miss those days.
