Hard soil evidence using process of radiometric dating tells us 4.5 billionish, give or take a few millions years or so..

The water on this earth..that's what is really old.

And we're all physically dependent and a part of that. We carry an ancient history in us.

Maybe take some classes if you're that curious?

BTW, your number is wrong. It isn't 4.543 billion, it's more like 4.54 plus or minus a fudge factor.

Based on your most recent post, you never made it to the soccer board. Poor schmuck.

I dont know how you mix a white powder, some cow tit juice and a couple chicken embryos , add a little yeast and BAM! You have bread after putting it in a torcher chamber.

Actually i do understand that. Bad example.

Take an advanced physics class, advanced astromomy class(es) and dont take any philosophy classes while doing so.

Get back to me then, if you get a B or better

Not sure if this belongs here or in that bad first date thread. I met a woman off one of those dating sites and we went out for dinner. She was cute and things were going well. Then she comes out with, "I just don't believe the Earth is billions of years old. That doesn't make any sense to me." I instantly lost all respect for her. I mean, I still hit it that night and never saw her again, but lost all respect. I guess it wasn't that bad of a date.

4,543,000,000 is pretty far from being an exact number.

The oldest rocks on Earth found to date are the Acasta Gneisses in northwestern Canada near the Great Slave Lake, which are 4.03 billion years old. Rocks older than 3.5 billion years can be found on all continents. Greenland boasts the Isua Supracrustal rocks (3.7 to 3.8 billion years old), while rocks in Swaziland are 3.4 to 3.5 billion years. Samples in Western Australia run 3.4 to 3.6 billion years old. Research groups in Australia found the oldest mineral grains on Earth. These tiny zirconium silicate crystals have ages that reach 4.3 billion years, making them the oldest materials found on Earth so far. Their source rocks have not yet been found.

More than 70 meteorites have fallen to Earth to have their ages calculated by radiometric dating. The oldest of these have ages between 4.4 and 4.5 billion years.

quote:

Fifty thousand years ago, a rock hurled down from space to form Meteor Crater in Arizona. Shards of that asteroid have been collected from the crater rim and named for the nearby Canyon Diablo. In 1953, Clair Cameron Patterson measured ratios of lead isotopes in samples that put tight constraints on Earth's age.The Canyon Diablo meteorite is important because it represents a class of meteorites with components that allow for more precise dating. Samples of the meteorite show a spread from 4.53 to 4.58 billion years. Scientists interpret this range as the time it took for the solar system to evolve, a gradual event that took place over approximately 50 million years.

Scientists can't even get this global warming thing right, much less tell us how old the earth is.

I'm a Christian and I believe the earth was created in far more than just '7 days'....who knows how long a 'day' was. Humans have only been around for a few thousand years.

Big Bang theory is the laziest theory in history. "I have no idea how everything was formed, so let's just say a big arse star blew up".

Only the most delusional religious zealots actually believe this. I'm not religious, but I'll give credit to most of my religious friends for at least doing a contortionist act to try to reconcile science and religion.
