I got an email from dealership I bought my car for a free oil change. Dropped it off, get a call an hour later saying they did the six-point inspection and my tires are showing rot and could be unsafe to drive on the road. I think it is prolly all bs since I got a free oil change. They want to get me for something else. Got my car is 2017 and it has less than 50,000 miles. How often do most cars need new tires?

Edit: I declined and said I don't want new tires.

If they are dry rotted you should get new tires. No matter the age.

Depends on the tires and the shape they are in.

As an OT baller, I generally trade in the car when it needs tires.

I would start to worry about a tires age around 5 years. So yeah you may have some dry rot.

I’d do some research & check them out myself before I put new ones on

Likely a bait and switch, but it might not hurt to get a second opinion on the tires from a different source.

This is the OT, whenever the tires are rot, we get a new car and give our butlers the old vehicle.

Surprised you don't need a new Johnson rod.

Haha yeah I know. Appreciate all the answers tho. I can afford it but the fact that they are telling me this the same time I got a free oil change, I am suspicious. I'll prolly get a second opinion. I'm not the most car-savvy.

Every 5 years or 4/32nds on a tread depth gauge. You need tires. Quit being cheap and buy some tires. The rest of us have to share the road with you.

Always get a second opinion from an independent shop after a visit with the dealership. Not a chain store either, a genuine independent mechanic if your not sure about what your told.

Tires almost 6yrs old, probably time to replace them. You should be able to see the dry rot. Don’t risk a blowout trying to squeeze a few more miles/months out of them.

I probably wouldn’t buy tires from the dealership though

Lots of factors, kind of car, kept in a garage, tires rotated, etc. Dealership, might want to get a second opinion. Mostly any place will tell you that you need tires. Big money.
If we do away with oil, what will they make tires out of?
